Stratton, Maynard Ernest

Maynard Ernest Stratton, 90, of Nelson, PA, loving and devoted husband to Dolores, passed away at Gino Merli Veterans' Center, on January 31, 2013. He was born June 12, 1922 in Corning, NY, the son of the late William and Francis McCallum. Maynard's siblings were brothers; Edgar, Cecil, Kenneth, William, Bernard, Carl, and Harold, sisters; Bernice Gauss, Ida Hanrahan, Beatrice Phelps, and Sadie Stratton. His sister-in-law Beatty Stratton survives. Maynard served in the Army from October 5, 1942 to October 24, 1945 as a staff sergeant for the 749 Bombardment Squadron receiving a honorable discharge. He worked as the facility manager of the New Jersey State Fairgrounds and the Trenton International Speedway for nearly 25 years. Maynard married the "love of his life" Dolores Luffred in 1946, she preceded him in death November 21, 2011 and raised their three children in Hamilton Square, NJ. They retired in St. Petersburg, FL, and then returned to the area of Corning in 1991, where they had lived for 20 years, enjoying the wonderful company of family, neighbors, and the Nelson church community. January 4th, 2012 he became a resident of the Gino Merli Veterans' Center in Scranton, PA. Maynard is survived by; daughter and her partner, Cynthia Stratton and John Van Plantinga; sons and daughters-in-law, Maynard Robert (deceased) and Diane, and Peter and Jeanette; grandchildren, Stacey (Joe) Kuzemka, Erik (Jill) Stratton, Jonna (Dan) Nyiri, Lindsey Stratton, Ashley (Ken) Miller, and Brett (Grishma) Dille; great-grandchildren, Lily Stratton, Marin Nyiri, and Arya Kapasi Dille; and many dear nieces and nephews, who remained close to him throughout his lifetime. Friends and relatives are invited to call at the Kenyon Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Elkland, PA, on Sunday from 2-4pm. Funeral Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at the United Church of Nelson, with Reverend Dorothy Densmore officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at the Nelson Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in his memory to the United Church of Nelson, 75 Village Drive, P.O. Box 6, Nelson, PA 16940; or Gino Merli Veterans' Center, 401 Penn Ave., Scranton, PA 18503 where he received compassionate care deserving of honors. To the Stratton Family........I am so sad to hear of Maynard's passing on. He has always been a close part of our lives even though he was far away. He is happy now with Dolores beside him. We all loved them both dearly....our good friends, our good neighbors.
