Virginia Appler Obituary

Virginia Louise Appler, known affectionately as Gini, passed away on November 27th, 2023, at the age of 82 in Annapolis, Maryland. She was born on December 17, 1940, in New Castle, Delaware, to Paul L. H. Heine and Madeleine Hicks Heine. Gini was the loving mother of three sons: Paul, Todd, and Richard Wicker.

Gini in her early years was involved in theater and TV. She was Miss Lancaster County 1959, participating in the Miss America pageant.

During her ex-spouse's, Chuck Wicker, service in the United States Navy, Gini took on the role of the primary parent, caring for her children with unwavering love and dedication. She was a pillar of strength while Chuck was on deployment, and approached every task with 100% commitment. Gini's enthusiasm for life was evident in her active participation in various community service projects, church activities, and volunteering efforts. In her middle age years, she really enjoyed boating, working and living her days happy with her ex-spouse, Larry Bean. In her later years she was a devoted wife to Ray Appler and loved being with him and their community in Easton, Maryland.

Gini enjoyed a fulfilling career working in Sales and Management within the Assisted Living community. Her passion for helping others was shown through in her work, as she made a positive impact on the lives of many.

Gini is survived by her sons: Paul (Daphne) Wicker, Todd (Christine) Wicker, and Richard (Tara) Wicker; and six grandchildren: Max, Tyler, Zach, Maggie, Gavin and Reese. She was preceded in death by her father, Paul L. H. Heine, her mother, Madeleine Hicks Heine, her sister, Madeleine Alisa, her ex-spouse, Lawrence "Larry" Bean, her brother, Dr. Paul Heine, her ex-spouse, Charles "Chuck" Wicker, and her husband, Raymond Rodney Appler.

Gini found solace and spiritual nourishment at St. Marks UM Church in Easton, Maryland, where she worshipped. Her faith was an integral part of her life, providing her with guidance and strength.

Gini's legacy will live on in the hearts of those she touched through her unwavering love, selflessness, and dedication to her community. She will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Annapolis in the Spring of 2024. Information will be provided once details have been finalized.
