Eldon Richard Evers

September 4, 1932 - September 7, 2024

Eldon Richard Evers, 92, passed away on September 7, 2024, at the Residency Care Center with his family by his side. A celebration of his life will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Bridgeport, NE on September 21 at 2 p.m., with Pastor Peter Preus officiating. At his request, cremation has taken place, and inurnment will follow after the service, at 3 p.m., in the Oregon Trail Memorial Cemetery, west of Bridgeport. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or to the Morrill County Community Hospital Foundation. Eldon was born on September 4, 1932, near Dunbar, NE to Richard and Leta (Janssen) Evers. He was baptized and confirmed at Luther Memorial Church in Syracuse, NE. He graduated from Syracuse High School in 1949 and attended Midland Lutheran College in Fremont, NE. After working at the Syracuse Bank for three years, he was called into the Army and served his country for two years. On June 25, 1953, he married JoAnn Knickman and they lived in Waynesville, MO where Eldon was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood. After his military service, he returned to Lincoln, NE and worked at the National Bank of Commerce while finishing his education at the University of Nebraska. He graduated from UNL in 1958 and moved to Bridgeport, NE where he was employed by the Bridgeport State Bank, later known as Wells Fargo Bank, until his retirement in 2004. Eldon and JoAnn enjoyed their winters in Arizona, where they met many friends, and moved from Bridgeport to The Residency in Scottsbluff in 2015.

Eldon and JoAnn were blessed with a son, Scott Richard (Vickie) Evers of Salem, OR and a daughter, Anna (Ricky) Garner of Spring, TX, along with five grandchildren, Brandon (Brandi) Stewart, Kaylee (James) Hodges, Kelli (Brad) Fagan, and Sam and Adam Evers, along with five great grandchildren. He is survived by his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and three nieces. He was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn, his parents and his sister, Adele Stubbendick.

Eldon was in banking almost all of his life, including serving as a Director of the Abbott Banks. He also owned the Eldon Evers Insurance Agency in Bridgeport. Eldon was very active in his church and served for many years as President of the Church Board. He was very dedicated to the Bridgeport community, having served as a Board Member of the Morrill County Community Hospital for over 50 years, as well as the Hospital Foundation. He was a member of the Bridgeport Prairie Winds Community Center, Bridgeport American Legion Roy Johnson Post #29, Bridgeport Lions Club, and the Court House and Jail Rock Golf Club, and also served as a Board Member of Prairie Haven Hospice in Scottsbluff. He enjoyed golfing (his favorite), baseball, dancing, movies, playing bridge, shooting pool, and spending time with his family and friends.

I used to work at the bank in Bridgeport and Eldon was a very pleasant helpful person. He had a great sense of humor and was liked by everyone. I am sure you will miss him. My deepest sympathy to the family.
