ROSS
Brandon Carl Ross, 25, of Plano, Texas, entered heaven on September 15, 2017. He was born January 28, 1992 and was the light of his family's lives. Brandon's strength to overcome obstacles and the support of his mother and grandparents enabled Brandon to be mainstreamed and graduate high school and college with numerous honors, despite his profound hearing loss. He graduated from Carrollton Christian Academy, was a member of the National Honor Society, named all district punter and academic all-state in football. He was also named to the all-district team in soccer. He earned a B.A.A.S. in Applied Technology & Performance Improvement; with an emphasis in Networking from The University of North Texas. In addition, he graduated with honors from Collin College with an A.A.S. in Cybersecurity.
Brandon received numerous awards during his twenty-five years including: Federation of Genealogical Societies National Youth Award, Dick Shaw Award for Outstanding Eagle Project, and being a member of Sam Johnson's Congressional Youth Advisory Council. He was a member of numerous societies; National Eagle Scouts of America Association Life member, National Advanced Youth Leadership Experience (highest leadership training in Boy Scouts), Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, Tau Sigma Honor Society, and Golden Key Honor Society.
His first love was being a Boy Scout. He earned his Eagle Scout as a sophomore in high school, along with sixty-four merit badges. His eagle project was voted best in district and is the largest cemetery transcription project ever completed, in fact the North American Genealogy Society honored him as their national youth of the year for his project. Brandon continued his scouting work as a Junior Assistant Scout Master and at the age of eighteen was named Assistant Scoutmaster. He thoroughly enjoyed teaching young scouts. He continued Scouting as a member of a Venture crew and enjoyed civil war reenactments. As a BSA Camp Instructor and Program Director he led the paddle and peddle program. His love of kayaking and backpacking led to many treks with his fellow Scouts and an Alaskan adventure with his beloved granddad, Bob Ross.
Brandon was employed at Cisco Systems and had recently signed a new contract and was developing a training program for their Telecom division.
He is survived by his mother, Gayle Ross of Plano; grandparents Gela and Bob Ross of Plano; His uncles Robert Ross and Chris Nettell of Hickory Creek; Great-uncle and godfather Randy Steen of Greenville; Great-uncle Ron Steen, Great-aunt Cindy Steen, and cousin Chacey Rembecki all of Kansas City, MO; Great-uncle S.L. Fuller, cousins and godmother Candace Pearson and Felicia Fuller, all of Plano; Father George Nutwell and half brother and sister Ben and Natalie Nutwell of Katy; Uncle Daniel Nutwell and Grandfather George Marion Nutwell II of MD; and many other relatives, including his best friend Eric Chase, of Plano, who was like a brother.
Brandon's light may have dimmed here on earth, but it is shining brightly in heaven where he is soaring like an Eagle.
A graveside service was held Friday, Sept 22nd, at Memoryland Memorial Park Greenville ,Texas under the direction of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home. A Celebration of Brandon's life will be held Thursday Oct 5th from 6:30 to 8:00 PM at Preston Meadow Lutheran Church, 6801 Coit Road, Plano, TX, 75024. In lieu of flowers, Gayle's Southwest Airline's friends and family established an account for donations to cover costs and be distributed to charities near to Brandon's heart such as the SPCA, BSA, and assisting those who cannot afford hearing aids.
