We are very sorry we missed your mother's services. We have known her for many years from when we were in Sunset Park Baptist Church, when she and your father operated the Hanover Heights Superette, and from seeing her and the domino girls when we went to their Hardees several times. She wrote a beautiful poem for my mother (Iva Ellis Byrne) when she married my stepfather Frank Byrne. One of our fondest memories is when she called from the Superette to ask whether we knew our son had climbed our fence and gone to the Superette (four blocks away and across the highway) for candy. We did not know and were astounded because of his young age of 4 yrs. Your mother was a lovely person, and we pray God will comfort and sustain you.

My deepest sympathy and prayers are with all of you. Mrs. Spell was a wonderful lady and always had a smile on her face. Bobby and myself went to school at Sunset and New Hanover.

ALL OF US HANOVER HEIGHTS KIDS HAD OUR LIVES TOUCHED BY THE KINDNESS OF THE SPELL FAMILY. MRS. SPELL MADE ME A BIRTHDAY CAKE EVERY YEAR. I WILL NEVER FORGET IT. SHE WAS A LOVING MOTHER AND A GREAT FRIEND.
MANY OF OUR CHILDHOOD MEMORIES REVOLVE AROUND WALKING TO "SPELLS" AND GETTING CANDY AND SOMETIMES EVEN HAVING OUR MEAT CUT FRESH BY MR. SPELL. WHEN DIANE WAS BORN, MRS. SPELL ACTUALLY LET ME HOLD HER. I FELT SO IMPORTANT BECAUSE SHE MADE ALL OF US FEEL LIKE PART OF THE FAMILY. MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH HER FAMILY AS THEY RELY ON THE WONDERFUL MEMORIES OF A SPECIAL LADY.
LOVE,
KATHERINE (COLLINS) LYNCH

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I have fond memories of Mrs. Spell and Mr. Spell as I grew up in Hanover Heights. My older brothers and I were always going up to "Spell's". Mrs. Spell was such a lovely person.

I'm sure there are many who share the same fond memories of her. I hope that you may find some comfort in the comments you find here. God bless you.
