David Tippins Obituary

CLAXTON - David Asbury Tippins, 80, died on March 17 under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. The Evans County native lived in Claxton most of his life.
He was a lifelong member of Claxton First Baptist Church, where he had served as deacon, treasurer and on various committees.
He attended North Georgia College, graduated from the University of Georgia and was a retired self-employed CPA. He was a U.S. Army veteran, had served one term on the Claxton City Council and more recently had served nine years on the Evans County and Regional Library boards. He was a former member and past president of Claxton Rotary Club. A longtime member of the Tippins Bank & Trust Company Board of Directors, he was recently named director emeritus.
His parents, Eldred Lanier and Mary Burns Tippins; and brother, Dr. Jesse G. Tippins, predeceased him.
Survivors: his wife of 50 years, Marie Knight Tippins of Claxton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Beth and Will Groover of Stilson and Jennifer and Jimmy Eubanks of Tucker; one son, David Tippins Jr. of Statesboro; one sister and brother-in-law, Betsy and Dan Eden of Augusta; one brother and sister-in-law, Eldred Tippins Jr. and Laura of Claxton; six grandchildren, Angie Tippins Glisson, Katie and Emily Tippins, Aaron and William Groover and Jonathan Eubanks; one great-grandson, Cole Glisson; three step grandchildren, Amanda Eubanks Skinner, James M. and Sarah Eubanks; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation: Wednesday, March 19, 6-8 p.m. at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home.
Funeral: A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 20, at 11 a.m. at Claxton First Baptist Church with Dr. Larry Meadors and the Rev. Dan Hughes officiating. Burial: private interment in the L.A.H. Tippins Family Cemetery will be held later in the afternoon.
Remembrances: in lieu of flowers, the family requests remembrances be sent to Ogeechee Area Hospice, 200 Donehoo Street, Statesboro, GA, 30459; or Evans County CARES, Inc., P.O. Box 186, Claxton, GA 30417; or one's charity of choice.

Marie and children, This was such atrajedy to hear about. David and my father were very good friends and he was one of the most kindest and finest men myself and my husband have ever had the priviledge to know I have a bad cold and will not be able to attend the visitation, however the thoughts and prayers of my family will be with you all during this sad and difficult time, Mr. David will be greatly missed and his loss is a great loss to this community.
