Janice Peeler Obituary

Janice Elizabeth Peeler
Round Rock - Janice Elizabeth Peeler (nee Tyree), 69, passed away on February 26, 2021. Born and raised in Southern California, Janice visited Texas numerous times before falling in love with the state and settling permanently in Round Rock several years ago.
Janice is survived by her husband of 43 years, Mark Peeler, and her daughters Stephanie Marcum (and partner Bonnie Brown) and Kathryn Miller (and husband Michael). She also leaves behind her grandchildren: Jessemyn Sergent (and husband Clay); Holly Marcum (and partner Aaron Warren); Heather Rollins (and husband Dakota); Jacob Krein; Lauren White; Emerson White; Genevieve White; and Owen Miller. Janice is also survived by two sisters: Mary Rider and Kathleen Hamm; her father- and mother-in law, David and Jeanne Peeler; plus numerous loving nieces and nephews and family members and friends. Janice was preceded in death by her mother, Edith Ruth "Dolly" Compton, stepfather Hunter Briggs "Tom" Tyree, and father LaVerne Gilbert.
Janice loved being on the lake, her pets (at present: two dogs, four cats, and one parrot), racecars, and blues concerts and live-music festivals. She was fascinated by the field of medicine and earned various medical assisting and radiological certifications later in life, always finishing at the top of her class. She made friends of every stranger she met, slipping guardian angel pins to struggling new moms and holding babies she had just met to ease the ache of missing her own grandchildren. She enjoyed being with her husband more than anything, from lounging with the pets to running routine errands to making cross-country trips to visit far-flung family.
In lieu of a service or flowers, the family asks that you wear a mask. If you would like to share a remembrance or a photo, please contact

Janice wore a badge of courage she didn’t know she had. The type of badge that’s silently worn by people who heroically fought long, hard battles. I don’t know if she ever “won” or if she was still fighting that cause; I do know she was a woman to be respected. She was extraordinary.

Janice was opinionated and fair. She was modest and proud. She was sweet and a spitfire. She was damn funny! She was also damn beautiful! Girl must’ve turned lots of heads in her younger days! She loved and cared for her family deeply and fiercely. Her steel eyes softened whenever she spoke of them.

I wish I told her how I loved her! She was the type of friend everyone should have. I wish we could’ve spent more time together. We had plans. Oh the trouble I can imagine we’d get into! But oh the good she would inspire in me to put out into the world. We met for coffee once at a small, local eatery. They were selling overpriced masks, but the proceeds would help support local artists. She bought several. Janice was caring and generous like that.

I believe Janice is in heaven, where she’s happy, uninhibited, and at peace. She made an impact on me and my family. I miss so much! We all do.

I don’t know how to put into words how incredibly lost I feel now that you’re gone. I miss your face, your voice, your smile, your laugh, and your hugs. You were my miracle, my angel, my best friend, my confidante, and my mother. I will continue to make you proud of me. I will continue to move forward, but right now, I just want to sit here and remember you. Thank you for for showing yourself to me every morning...I know the dove that comes to the tree while I have my morning coffee is your way of letting me know that you are ok and that we will be ok, too.

I will miss Jan forever. She was my rock and my life. This still isn’t fair and I feel like I’ve been robbed. I love you babe.

I never personally met Janice but hearing Mark talked of her at Delillo Chevrolet I knew she was a special woman of God and that Mark loved her dearly. She will certainly be missed by all. She’s not gone. Just waiting for all of us.
