Lawrence Barbour Obituary

Lawrence Barbour went to Heaven on December 9, 2022, surrounded by daughters who loved him dearly, and probably a little exhausted after ninety years of a life well lived. Daddy was born in London, England, on June 3, 1932. He survived the blitz and was whisked to safety at a Welsh boarding school, where, if he was to be believed, he would regularly wake up with a foot of snow on his bed. He and his family arrived in the United States in 1942. He was the type of teenager to drive from New Jersey to Vermont at 3 am because one of his friends had a hankering for pancakes with real maple syrup, after which they decided they could really go for some pizza ... in Florida. He served in the US Army during the Korean War, which included 19 days getting seasick on a boat to Okinawa (it took us until 2013 to convince him to get on a cruise ship). But his life really began when he married Lee Ann, the love of his life in 1959, and they followed adventure wherever it took them, eventually settling in Austin, Texas.

He hated beets and blueberries. He loved music, oysters, caviar, and a good martini (on the rocks, very dry, with precisely one olive). But most of all, he loved his family. We are devastated to lose him, but we are so grateful for all the time he spent with us, teaching us how to change a tire, fix a good martini, invest our money, and how to live a good life with kindness and always a sense of humor.

He missed our mother desperately after her passing in 2020, and we have no doubt that she welcomed him into Heaven. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Gloria Kirby and Barbara Miller, dear cousins Duncan Barbour and Malcolm Barbour, and his childhood dog, Hadley. He is survived by his daughters, Susan Barbour, Diana Holford (Jack), Sharon Petrecca (Greg), and Laura Barbour; his grandchildren, whom he loved so much, Kiely Petrecca, Devon Petrecca, Houston Holford, and Dallas Holford; and countless extended family and friends.

Dad's inurnment will be held on January 10, 2023, at 1:00PM at the outdoor Columbarium at St. John Neumann, 5455 Bee Cave Rd. Austin, TX. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a cause close to your heart, or to Hackley School, the Central Texas Food Bank, or the Capital Area Council - Boy Scouts of America.
