Owen Davis Obituary

Family-Placed Obituary

Owen "Ojas" S. Davis Aug. 20, 1942 - Mar. 2, 2005 Businessman, music lover, dedicated husband and father, Owen "Ojas" S. Davis, 62, passed away March 2, 2005, after a courageous year-long battle with cancer. He was the eldest son of the late Rev. O. S. and Cecelia Davis and is survived by his wife of 32 years, Polly of New Mexico; children Gurupartap and Shakti; and siblings Jessie and Julia Henderson. Born August 20, 1942, in Dallas, Tex., Owen earned a B.S. at Huston- Tillotson College in 1964 before serving four years in the Navy. A natural leader, he headed the Guru Granth Yoga Ashram of Austin in the early 1970 s where he met his wife and changed his name to "Ojas." Ojas founded Sat Nam Bakery to help support the Ashram and provide healthy breads to the Austin community. He later moved to New Mexico where he was self-employed as a contractor and revitalized a Farmington motel, the Rimrock Lodge. The same unyielding determination that made his business ventures successful guided him in his active personal life where he was passionate about tennis, windsurfing, and bowling. Ojas also loved music and said there was always a song playing in his mind. Memorial services will be held in Austin at 1:00 p.m., Sat., Mar. 12 at Ulit Ave. Baptist Church, 1804 Ulit Ave. with Rev. Melvin Wright, Jr. officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, (888) 286-7846.
