Philip L. Townsend Philip L Townsend, age 44, of Austin, Texas, passed away at the University Medical Center at Brackenridge on September 11, 2008, following complications sustained from a head injury. A son of Texas, he was born June 26, 1964, in Arlington, Texas, to Dan and Carol Townsend. He attended Noel, Missouri grade school and graduated with honors from McDonald County, Missouri High School. He organized their first chess club. He was a member of the varsity baseball team as a southpaw pitcher and first baseman. His love of athletics was not limited to baseball, as he was active in football, basketball, softball, swimming, golf, and other competitive sports. Additionally, he relished outdoor adventure. He attended DeVry Institute in Kansas City, Missouri, and Missouri Southern State University studying computer science. Philip was an entrepreneur and owned his first business at the age of 21. He later moved to New Orleans, Louisiana, and became part owner of three businesses in the Metairie, Louisiana area. After hurricane Katrina he sold his ownership in the businesses and moved to Austin, Texas. At the time of his death, Phil was employed by the exclusive Hyatt Lost Pines Spa and Resort in Bastrop, Texas. Philip is survived by his parents, Dan and Carol Townsend of Madisonville, Texas, his brother Brian and hid sister-in-law, Denise Townsend of Grapeland, Texas, brother Curtis and sister-in-law Anita Townsend of Bastrop, Texas, and brother Jeffrey and sister-in-law Lisa Townsend of Alvin, Texas. He is also survived by seven nieces and nephews, his grandparents, Jerry and Isabel Townsend of Pryor, Oklahoma, his grandmother Helen Kanzenbach of Huntsville, Texas and by many cousins, uncles, aunts and friends. Phil was an American Indian and a member of the Muskogee (Creek) Nation. Phil was very outgoing, fun-loving, caring, adventurous and generous. He was a gentleman. He loved to travel and always enjoyed being with people. He was a huge sports fan, and frequently played football, basketball, and softball with his friends, in addition to his frequent runs along Town Take and the Barton Creek Greenbelt. He loved to read, study, and had a particular interest in tree recognition and appreciation. His zest for life was contagious by all that knew him. He was imaginative, creative, articulate, and possessed the fine qualities that most espouse to obtain. He leaves behind all the friends and acquaintances that had the good fortune to be touched by him. Memorial services for Philip L. Townsend will be held at All Faiths Funeral Home, 4360 South Congress, Austin, Texas, ph #512-326-8878, on Saturday, September 20, 2008 at 10:00am. My cousin Phil....was a cousin, like a brother, and most definitely a friend. I sit back and cherish all the fun times we had growing up with the great thing we call a family!

Remember the time when Heidi, Mike, and I came to visit in Joplin? Mom was a little weary about leaving three young kids with 3 of the 4 boys.....you guys took Mike and hung him on the front porch by his underwear :-) Then we had a well balanced dinnner....Chocolate cake and milk. (does a body good!) I remember Jeff getting a tennis ball thrown at him while eating cake and of course it didnt make it to his mouth. After dinner we all went to the movies and saw "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles". Of course as always, I fell asleep. So we went back to the house and attempted to put me to bed....not happening! We loaded back up in the car and went to your bar and played pinball all night.

I will never forget the weekend with the cousins.

I always got excited when I heard that you and the rest of the boys were going to be at any of the family get-togethers. Phil you will never be forgotten as you well know....you hold a piece in my heart that can never be replaced. I wish there was more time that we all could have spent with you but we all know that there is some reason the man upstairs took you. Keep practicing on that Guitar Hero because I'll be ready for a challenge when I see you again. I LOVE YOU PHIL!!!

Your Cuz,
Breezy

To my Dear Family,
May we trust in God and rest assured that he will always be with us no matter what may occur in our lives or those of our family members, all we have to do is trust in him and be there for each other.

I will always regret not getting to spend nearly enough time with Phil. He was one of our cool cousins that we looked up to and wanted to be like when we "grew up". He was so talented and creative, and I was just in awe. All my memories of him are happy ones... like his ability to draw faces on an etch a sketch when I couldn't even draw a square. I still can't believe he's not here anymore, but it's because I don't want to believe it. The world is a little less special without him in it. You will be missed, but always looked up to.

Phil was truly one of God's most exquisite creations. He was beautiful inside and out. He was that guy that all the girls wanted to be with and all the guys just wanted to be. He was a gentleman and a clown. He was so loved and will be in our hearts forever. I will miss him more than words can say.

God saw he was getting tired, a cure was not meant to be. So he put his arms around him and whispered "Come with me." With tearful eyes you watched him suffer and saw him fade away, although you loved him dearly you could not make him stay. A golden heart stopped beating...hard working hands at rest, God broke our hearts to prove, He only takes the BEST. (author unknown)

Love Aunt Alecia (Lisa's Aunt) Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Jan (Grandmother) So sorry for your loss. Uncle Joe

It grieves me to think of the pain you are enduring. Nothing in life is worse than the loss of a child. I can not say the right words to make you feel better. Just know I have prayed and prayed for all of you. Every church group I have friends in has prayed for you and Phil and are now praying for his soul. I know he has gone to heaven, he comes from good family, and I know the good Lord is watching him now. Accept my love and prayers. Lorelei and Danny Blair. (Lisa's Parents)

I was not close to Phil in school but I'll never forget the time he rescued me from the rope bridge that broke at Silver Dollar City. Robbie Brooks, Karen Ellis, Phil and I were on it but we close to the end, I was hanging on and he caught me and lowered me to the ground. We were all pretty shook up as some were seriously injured in the middle of the ravine on the bridge. He was always so nice, congenial and helpful. I am so sorry to hear such sad news and my heart goes out to his friends and family as well as our prayers as Roger stated in his entry. May God grant you peace and understanding.
