Tim Thatcher Obituary

Tim Carlton Thatcher Tim Carlton Thatcher, age 41, a native of Sequim, Wa, and resident of Pflugerville, Tx, passed away peacefully in his sleep, with family present, on May 7, 2012, at Texas Medical Center in Houston, Tx. Born to Tom and Rita Thatcher in Corvallis, Oregon, it was only fitting that Tim was born on Flag Day, June 14, 1970, as he loved American traditions: Thanksgiving dinner, July 4th fireworks, Christmas gift giving, and Opening Day baseball. It wasn't until he joined the Peace Corps and met his future wife, Cristiana, his only true love, in 1995, that Tim's personal interests became international. Tim was an honor student at Sequim High School, graduating in 1988. He and a tight knit group of high school pals have stayed connected for life. (Tim's family would only recently learn about some of their exploits..) This would carry over to his Sigma Chi brothers at the University of Puget Sound and to his Dell Computer family. Many of you are here today. Tim was employed at Boeing in Seattle before deciding quickly to join the Peace Corps. His three- year assignment in Nicaragua, subsequent travel in Central and South America in the mid-90's, and employment for the U of Mobile, Alabama at Diriamba, Nicaragua, formed his love for all things Latin. Tim's father-in-law once said that Tim knew more about Latin culture and history than the natives. During his travels in 1995, Tim met his future bride, Cristiana, and her mother, in a San Salvador hotel lobby. That encounter led to their marriage on April 4, 1998, in Managua, Nicaragua. Fourteen years later, they are proud parents of three beautiful children: Cristopher Alan (13), Nicolas Andres (10), and Sofia Loree (7). In 2001, Tim and family became members of St Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church in Pflugerville, Tx. In addition to graduate studies in North Carolina and 11 years at Dell, Tim embarked on various hobbies. From an early age when he carved a notch in the dining room chair, to the present, he loved woodcraft. Sofia's rocking chair, Cristiana's jewelry stand, the garden bench for Mom and Pop, and hardwood projects on the drawing board, are daily reminders of his talents. He also loved traveling, camping, and fishing. Whether by foot, VW bus, plane, or boat, there were few places on earth Tim has not seen. He was in awe of the Grand Canyon. In December, 2011, he surprised his wife with a milestone birthday trip to Puerto Rico. In recent years, he and his brother engaged in several fishing trips, both in the Northwest and in Texas. Their stories often outweighed their catch. Tim's family will remember him by their given nicknames: Amour, divinura (Cristiana), Cristo (Cristopher), Niicooolaasss (Nicolas), and Boo Boo (Sofia). No matter what the occasion -- Little League baseball, Mojo tournaments, dance recitals, or school events, Dad was always present. His investment and love for baseball memorabilia remains intact, as Tim took the combination and passcode to his safe with him ... Tim will be greatly missed by family and friends. His dry sense of humor, warm smile, Chicago Cubs and NC Tarheels attire, Sunday dinners that included appetizers, red wine, and desserts, and backyard barbecues became trademarks at the Thatcher household. So..... Amor, Cristopher, Nicolas, Sofia, Rumba (dog), Todd, Mama Rita, Papa Tom, Nona, Cesar, my Latin American extended family and friends, aunts, uncles, and cousins, lifelong buddies, school, work, and neighborhood friends, "Farewell for Now.." We shall soon meet again in God's presence. Love always, Tim The family extends our many thanks to Dr Ian McCutcheon, Dr Charles Conrad, and staff of MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston for Tim's care and to the many friends and church family whose prayers and support were constant over the past seven years. Recitation of the Rosary was held on Thursday evening, May 17, at 7:30 pm, at St Elizabeth Catholic Church, with Mass services to begin at 11 AM on Friday, May 18. In lieu of flowers, a monetary donation to St Elizabeth Catholic Church is welcome. Paradigm Funeral Services in Houston, Tx, have provided funeral and cremation arrangements with family.
