Audrey Storer Obituary

On February 6, 2018, Audrey Jeanne Storer, a longtime resident passed away in Kennewick, WA at the age of 87 due to a long battle with Alzheimer's. Audrey was born on February 9, 1930 in Colville, WA, the daughter of Charles and Alice (Fay) Van Tuyl.

She began grade school at the Narcisse country schoolhouse and graduated in 1948 from Colville High School. Audrey worked as a "Candy-Striper" at the Mount Carmel Hospital following high school.

She married Gerald Dean Storer on May 27, 1950 and began a family. They resided on the family farm where Audrey focused on the needs of her growing children.

Audrey helped with chores that came with farming, milking cows and caring for the livestock. She canned, gardened, sewed, and washed clothes with a ringer washer where she had to heat water on the wood stove.

In 1970, Audrey began working at Pinewood Terrace Nursing Home. For the next 22 years she cared for adults with greater needs and in failing health.

She and Gerald (Jerry) later divorced and for a time she resided in Kettle Falls.

In 2005, Audrey moved back home to the family farm where she enjoyed being close to family and spending time with grandchildren. Audrey's health would later begin a gradual decline with the onset of Alzheimer's. In 2013, she relocated to Kennewick, WA where she could receive specialized care.

Audrey raised her children with love, caring and discipline. She enjoyed a few hobbies of crocheting, sewing, embroidery, gardening and her "kitties." She also enjoyed making Christmas special by using her time to make various candies that her children and grandchildren looked forward to receiving every year. She would package these goodies along with other treasures of love inside. She had the ability to bring smiles with her sense of humor and get down on the floor to play with her grandchildren at their level. Her love was her children and grandchildren.

Audrey was preceded in death by her father; mother; sisters, Wanda and Shirley; and great granddaughter Stephanie McIrvin.

She is survived by her daughters, Patti McIrvin of Colville, WA and Gerri Lutz of Richland, WA; son, Larry Storer of Colville, WA; ten grandchildren; numerous great and great-great grandchildren; brother, Orville Van Tuyl; sisters, Glennis Van Tuyl and Dolores Hollenbeck; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service for Audrey J. Storer will begin at 1 p.m., Friday, February 16, 2018 at the Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville, WA. A graveside service will follow at the Mountain View Park Cemetery in Colville. Pastor Tony Pinkham will officiate. Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
