Allen Edwin Ludden (Al)

Al Ludden of Silverton, OR, beloved husband of Becky Ludden passed into peace, free of pain and the confusion caused by Alzheimer's. His final months of care were by the loving staff at Sweet Bye N Bye Memory Care in Salem.
Born in Seattle WA, Al grew up in Hoquiam, WA until joining the Navy in 1948. He had a 22 year career in the military, 10 years Navy as a Korean War Veteran, and 12 years Air Force into the Vietnam era. His second career was with the California Highway Patrol for 28 years, retiring as an Inspector of Automotive Equipment. With his mechanical knowledge and ability to work well with personnel statewide, this was a job he loved.
Al had a lifelong interest in anything mechanical; ships, airplanes, cars, especially the Pan AM Clippers and the lifestyle of that time. In retirement, he trained and served as a docent at the California Automobile Museum in Sacramento.
He couldn't remember life before swimming, his favorite form of exercise. Whether he was swimming 90 lengths of the pool or scuba diving, he was happy in the water, setting a standard for many, much younger than him, to follow.
Moving from Sacramento, CA to Silverton eight years ago, he felt immediately welcome and at home. He enjoyed all the people, seasons, and the beauty of the local landscape. This community, who never knew him at his best, showed him so much respect as the disease progressed. Thanks to all for the love and support over these past years.
Al is survived by his wife Becky, grateful for fifteen joy filled years together, four children, two step children, seven grandchildren, and a loving family by marriage. At his request, there will be no services. Arrangements made by Unger Funeral Chapel. A Celebration of Life will be held at the family home, Thursday, June 30 5-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, please plant something in your own garden that makes you feel happy. In his words, "I think you should have one of each".
