Hugh Colson Obituary

Hugh Dell Colson August 3, 1922 - June 27, 2009 SALEM - Hugh Dell Colson, 86, of Salem died June 27, 2009 at rest in his sleep. He was born in Willard, Colorado on August 3, 1922. Hugh spent his childhood in Sheridan, Oregon. He served several years in the United States Navy aboard the USS San Francisco during World War II. After the war, he was a logger in Oregon and California. He also pursued an education in engineering which led to a career in construction in southern California specializing as a master craftsman in woodworking. In 1963, he moved to Salem and started a dairy farm. Soon thereafter, he co-founded Colson & Colson Construction in Salem with his son, William and was subsequently a partner in the Holiday Retirement Corporation. His personal interest and hobbies included fishing, hunting and woodworking. He was a devoted husband, father and friend. Survivors include his wife, Margie Colson; two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a stepson. His first wife of many years, Faye; brothers, Cecil and Dick; and a sister, Zela Belle, preceded him in death. Funeral for friends and family will be 10 a.m. on Friday, July 3, 2009 at City View Funeral Home with viewing from 9 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow at City View Cemetery. Memorials and gifts may be made to International Childrens Care at 2711 N.E. 134th Way, Vancouver, Wash. 98686.
