Ray Reid Obituary

Raymond Allen Reid

~Forever Remembered In Our Hearts~

September 28, 1944 - July 28, 2015

Ray, 70, passed away at home in Salem after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Ray was born in Salt Lake City, Utah and soon after moved to Pocatello, Idaho where he was raised and went to school.

Ray moved to Salem in 1974 and started Pet Village. In 1975 he met Janice Cameron and they married in 1976. Ray and his wife started many successful business ventures together over the years. His love for animals played a major part in everything he did whether it was starting the Marion County K-9 program or the manufacturing company that produced horse and dog products. Pet Village and Animal Inn were his true passion as he loved to help people and their dogs.

Ray is survived by his wife of 39 years Janice, their two children Ryan, (his wife Brittany and their two children Jacoby and Hayden) Jennifer, (her two children Hailey and Cayden) Ray's two daughters: Sherri Reid, Krysti and Ross Wilson (her children Meghan, Ashton, Cameron, Hannah, Carley, Adalyn)

In lieu of flowers the family would be honored in the memory of Ray that donations be made to Salem Academy School (942 Lancaster Drive NE Salem, Oregon 97301) where his grandchildren attend for a special project of his grandchildren's choosing.

Services will be held at Restlawn Memorial Gardens Friday August 7, 2015 at 1:00pm

Janice and family,
Thinking of you, as I have thought of you often over the past year. I think back on the first time I met you and Ray in the summer of 2010. Well, there are few words which can truly express how much Bruces' Ruby dog (from one of Ray's litters) impacted my life. My thanks to Ray, to you and your family for putting Ruby in Bruces' life, and then my fortune of having both Bruce and Ruby come into my life here in Poulsbo and Seabeck WA.

Janice,
Keith and I just learned of Ray's passing. We are so sorry for your loss. Ray was a beautiful man and I am sure you and your family have wonderful memories.

We just learned of Ray's passing and were greatly saddened to hear that news. Ray picked out a puppy for us in the early 90s from an Anschi/Bear litter. Great memories of both Ray and our lovely dog. Deepest condolences to the entire Reid family from Jackie and Barry Bennett.

I got Ray's very first puppy back in 1975 and have had several since. I was so sorry to hear of his passing. My God give you comfort at this most difficult time.

My condolences to the Reid family. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. I learned so much from him. We even did protection training on my 1st springer WAY back when. As stated earlier, "A great boss".

So sad to hear of Ray's passing. Our condolences to his wife and family. My husband has known and respected Ray for many years. He purchased several police dogs from Ray and was fortunate to have done some training at his facility. Our last shepherd was one that Ray specially picked out for my husband from his Vom HausReid litter. Lexie was intended to be our family dog and a birthday surprise for my husband. I will never forget how caring and thoughful Ray was. I will never forget the shared respect and friendship shown between Ray and my husband that day we picked her up. What a wonderful dog she was!
God bless you Ray. What a positive influence you have been for so many.

Saddened to read this, my condolences to his family and friends. Such good memories of Ray from the dog obedience class I attended with my very enthusiastic and loving Labrador. The class was held at the State Fairgrounds way back then. Such a good and patient teacher, I remember many of the things he said and taught us to this day.

Jennifer & Reid family, We are so sorry for your loss. Our love & prayers are with you.

August 5, 2015

Years ago, during the early years of our marriage, a close friend made a gift to us of a pedigreed female German Shepherd from Vom Haus Reid breeding stock. She was a priceless dog, the first of several over the ensuing years, all acquired from Ray's kennel. We got to know Ray, and then Jennifer, his daughter, and now share with the family in their time of bereavement. The NW has lost a stalwart in the effort to produce quality, European breeding stock with stable temperament for both dependable work, as well as reliable and trusted family pets.
To Jennifer, her mom and extended family, please know you are in our thoughts.

I am thinking of you dear Janice and your family. Even though I only had a chance to spend a few times with you and Ray I could see how special you both were. I thank Susie and Donny for introducing me to you both. I pray in the days ahead you will find peace and comfort knowing how much Ray was loved by so many. Grief has no time limit, do whatever seems right for you and as the days pass you will experience some joy in the memories and the love you shared with each other. God Bless you my friend. Marylou
