David C. Hartzell died Nov. 5, 2011, at the Bailey Center in St. Augustine, Fla., after a short illness. He was born in Utica, N.Y., Nov. 2, 1927. After graduating from High School in Slingerlands, N.Y., he served in the Army of Occupation in Korea. After graduating from University of Vermont in 1953, he married a classmate, Ann Johnson. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta.
The couple were married for 58 years and had four children; Deborah Hartzell, Los Angeles, Calif; David Hartzell Jr., Clarence Center, N.Y.; Andrea Glass of Acworth, Ga., and Beth Wong of Royersford, Pa. The couple had 12 grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister: Sarah Smith of Newburyport, Mass., and brother, Howard of Mantross, Va.
Mr. Hartzell held several managerial positions at American Can Co., where he had worked for 33 years. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and the Brotherhood of St. Andrew.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Contribution can be made in his memory to Trinity Episcopal Endowment Scholarship Program, 215 St. George St., St. Augustine, FL 32084 or St. Francis House, 70 Washington St., St. Augustine, FL 32084.
