Growing up next door to David I have so many fond memories. I am especially grateful to David for all the hard work he did for the coastal environment and his beloved beaches. David was quite a force in protecting and improving this important part of the ecosystem.

Back in the late 80s, I took every Doctoral level class I could take with you because of your wry sense of humor, motivational assignments, love of all things Mac, and thorough analysis of my writing. You were the best professor I had at SUNY and I am eternally grateful to you for finding some Department petty cash to help pay my expenses to the 1988 NYSCATE Conference. Thanks to you, I got on the tech bandwagon fairly early and never got off until I retired from Apple in 2020. Blessings to you and your entire family. I am sorry I did not stay in touch with you after retirement.

I had not been in contact with David for a long time, but when were on the Albany faculty together, he was always most welcoming and friendly. He was a fine teacher and good department chair.

To Marilyn and family: David was such a good friend to me. I admired his quick mind and his writings were a delight to read. He could also see right to the heart of political matters. Very sad and surprising to learn of his death. I will definitely miss him. My thoughts are with you in this sorrowful time.

David Wiles was one of the most genuine, "real" persons I have known. He possessed a sharp mind and a keen wit to match. David was a born leader with a soft-spoken delivery but a bigger than life presence. He commanded and earned respect from those who knew him. David will be greatly missed.

David was loved and admired by so many, a true gentleman and a scholar. His wife and family were the inspiration of his life with our local community an essential second. The information gleaned from his emails surpassed the Record. Knowing a man of his spirit comes rarely in a lifetime. We will miss him dearly.

David Wiles was the conscience of our community on planning and zoning, developer corruption of our government, and the need to preserve and protect what we love in St. Augustine. His cogent analysis and passion for detail and nuance helped raise the quality of knowledge and debate in St. Johns County. We shall all miss him greatly.

David was the most supportive, unconditionally-loving and witty man, and was fiercely loyal to his wife and children, nieces and nephews. A class act until the end, Pops was an exceptional role model for his children, grandchildren, friends and environmentalists. His spirit shines on with every sunrise and sunset at his beloved Crescent Beach. "Trust the bus." We miss you so very much!
