David Wiles Obituary
His wife of 52 years, Marilyn McCall Wiles, sons, Corey (Jodi) and Matthew (Jenny), grandchildren, Seth, Zachary, Owen, Maya and Zane, and family Aimee, Michael, Robin, William, Bryan, Kay, Dale and Beth miss his contagious laughter and joy of life.
David grew up in Gainesville, Florida, graduating from PK Yonge. He received his undergraduate degree from Florida State University and Doctorate of Education from University of Florida. During his career, David was Professor of Educational Administration and Public Policy at Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, Virginia Tech, Miami University, University of North Florida, Professor Emeritus at State University of New York Albany and Visiting Professor, Valdosta State University.
United States Army First Lieutenant David Wiles served our country honorably while stationed in Korea. As a patriot, educational champion, outspoken environmental advocate serving as Commissioner, Soil and Water Conservation Board; former member Planning Zoning Agency; Charter Member and President, South Anastasia Communities Association; and Friends of Matanzas, he worked tirelessly to help enhance our quality of life.
He lived life to the fullest watching sunrises and sunsets. He loved the beach house he and Marilyn built 40 years ago. He deeply loved his family and friends. He won the 2016 Wiles Bocce Ball Invitational trophy!
David was the love of Marilyn's life and is truly missed by many.
A Celebration of David will be held on Sunday, Sept. 4, 2016.

Growing up next door to David I have so many fond memories. I am especially grateful to David for all the hard work he did for the coastal environment and his beloved beaches. David was quite a force in protecting and improving this important part of the ecosystem.

Back in the late 80s, I took every Doctoral level class I could take with you because of your wry sense of humor, motivational assignments, love of all things Mac, and thorough analysis of my writing. You were the best professor I had at SUNY and I am eternally grateful to you for finding some Department petty cash to help pay my expenses to the 1988 NYSCATE Conference. Thanks to you, I got on the tech bandwagon fairly early and never got off until I retired from Apple in 2020. Blessings to you and your entire family. I am sorry I did not stay in touch with you after retirement.

Dear Marilyn,
I just learned of David's passing. His mentorship as the Chair of my doctoral dissertation at Miami University of Ohio enhanced my continued to grow. His teaching brought home forcefully to idea to never let schooling get in the way of one's education.

David Wiles was one of the most genuine, "real" persons I have known. He possessed a sharp mind and a keen wit to match. David was a born leader with a soft-spoken delivery but a bigger than life presence. He commanded and earned respect from those who knew him. David will be greatly missed.

David was the most supportive, unconditionally-loving and witty man, and was fiercely loyal to his wife and children, nieces and nephews. A class act until the end, Pops was an exceptional role model for his children, grandchildren, friends and environmentalists.
