John Robert McCauley, 1919-2011
John, a devout Catholic, was born on Nov. 12, 1919, in Pittsburgh, Pa., son of Charles F. and Hulda McCauley, brother of Charles and Edward. His father worked for Judge Homer S. Ferguson's one-man grand jury in Michigan and later was director of purchases, Wayne County Board of Auditors.
John graduated from St. Celicia High School (Class of 1937), where he was All-City in Football and State Champion in Tennis (Doubles). He played minor league baseball for the New York Yankees in Augusta, Ga., and Fort Lauderdale, and for the Philadelphia Athletics in Saginaw, Mich.
He married Patricia McHale on Aug. 29, 1942, in Sioux Falls, S.D., and they were happily married for 66 years.
John served in the Army Air Corps in World War II in South America, North Africa and China-Burma-India. After the service, he worked as a general product sales manager and an instrumentation application engineer- problem solver for several different companies.
Faith and family were cornerstones of John and Patricia's family. John was always happy, optimistic and regularly attended Mass. He was a loving and wonderful father of six children: Kathleen (Haag), John R. Jr., Joanne (Driver), Michael, Donna (Zuppelli) and William. John was a loving grandfather of eight: Lori Ann Driver-Lindstrom, Monica De Meulemeester, Marcus McCauley, Shelly Maddox, John Driver Jr., Steve McCauley, Patrick McCauley and Ryan McCauley. John was an adoring great-grandfather of Luke and Cate Lindstrom, Morgan, Max and Jack De Meulemeester, McHale Baughman and Ella and Clara McCauley.
In 1986, John and Patricia moved to Palm Coast. He served the Knights of Columbus for over 60 years (4th Degree). He was active with St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church and one of the original members of the Belle Terre Swim Club.
John passed away on Feb. 11, 2011, with family members at his bedside in Palm Coast. A memorial Mass in celebration of his life will be on Feb. 26, 2011, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Palm Coast. He will be laid to rest at the Holy Sepulcher Cemetery, Southfield, Mich., near his parents. John will be dearly missed by all for his beautiful gift of love, generosity and quick wit.

Uncle John inspired those that he knew, loved and met through his zest for life. He definitely left an imprint on his beloved family to carry on his legacy.
