Mrs. Linda Macgregor will be deeply missed by her many friends here in St. Augustine and in her hometown and church in Crook County, Durham, England. After a brief illness she died quietly in her sleep at her home in England on Oct. 11, 2008.
Linda Pryce Macgregor was born on Dec. 27, 1920, in outer London. She trained as a nurse midwife in London and practiced in England and in Africa. Her husband, Dr. Alistair Macgregor, died in 1974, and, sometime after his death, Linda began to spend time in St. Augustine with her friend, Mattie Hart, who she had met when Mattie was studying at the University of Durham.
While living in St. Augustine, Linda received a bachelor's degree from Flagler College. She delighted in her studies there and in her association with other students and faculty. Afterward, her time was divided between St. Augustine and England.
Many St. Augustine friends spent happy times with her in the walking/sheep farming area of northern England where she lived. When in St. Augustine, Linda's life was centered on Memorial Presbyterian Church, Flagler College, charity work and spending time with her many friends.
A funeral service was held at her home church in Crook on Oct. 24, 2008, with Gibson Funeral Home, Howden-le-Wear, Crook County, Durham, in charge. A celebration of her life will be held here in St. Augustine at a later date. If anyone wishes to honor her life, please donate in her memory to Habitat for Humanity, a children's charity or to your favorite charity.
