Shirley A. Waters

Shirley A. Waters, 77, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2018. She was born in Bunnell to Allin and Mattie Shope on Feb. 11, 1941. Shirley spent her youngest years growing up in the Hammock, South of Marineland before moving to St. Augustine. She was a beloved daughter, wife, mother and grandmother.

Shirley is survived by her husband of 61 years, John D. Waters, and their children: Juanita Andrews, Marlene McGraw, Sally Waters and George Waters.

Shirley operated her own business in St. Augustine, Tousey's, and was a talented furniture refinisher who specialized in restoring antique pieces of all types. She was an extraordinary individual who could alternate effortlessly between weaving a pine needle basket, wrangling a live rattlesnake and preparing an amazing meal. More than that she was a kind person who always helped those in need and affected the lives for the better of any who met her.

There will be a memorial service at 3 p.m. Monday, July 9, 2018, at the Church of the Nazarene, 6 May St. in St. Augustine. Pastor Tom Adams will officiate. Family and friends are invited to a fellowship meal immediately after the service to celebrate her life.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Augustine Church of the Nazarene. The family is grateful to the many who have assisted and given support, especially the staff at the Community Hospice - Bailey Center for Caring who provided much comfort in a time of need. She will be missed.
