John McDonald Obituary

McDonald, John F. Jr. "Jack"

January 15, 1949 - June 1, 2025

Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, passed away June 1, 2025.

Born January 15, 1949, in St. Louis to John F. and Helen (Lottes) McDonald, Jack attended St. Roch School and then Christian Brothers High School (CBC) where he was a standout football player. Jack received a football scholarship to Wichita State University where he played for three years. He obtained a BA from St. Louis University.

Jack was co-owner with Andy Goldberg of Process Equipment & Controls for many years.

Later in life, Jack suffered from a progressive neurological disease that caused a gradual loss of vision, speech, and mobility. However, it did not diminish his mental acuity or wonderful personality. Even after he was wheelchair bound, Jack spent many hours laughing and joking with his cousins and his many friends. Jack was especially thankful for his high school classmates who often took him to church, out to lunch, or just driving around.

Jack is survived by his sisters, Mary McDonald Morrison (Tom) of Alexandria VA, Margaret McDonald and Judy McDonald, both of St. Louis County. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Bob, and his nephew, Kevin Morrison. He was blessed to have many Lottes family cousins who provided assistance whenever needed and invaluable emotional support. Jack was a devout Catholic and drew strength from his faith, which sustained him.

Services: A Requiem Mass will be held Friday, June 13 at St. Peter Catholic Church, 243 W. Argonne Dr., Kirkwood MO at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Mary Culver Home, CBC, or the charity of your choice.

Jack was at St. Roch´s with my brother, Michael, and Mary was my good friend at St. Roch´s. We loved the McDonald family, and we will keep Jack and your wonderful family in our thoughts and prayers.

Jack and I played against each other in grade school football form the 6th through the 8th grade. We served mass together at St. Rochs together from 6th grade through High School. We finally became team mates at CBC in 1963 -'67.
Jack was a great athlete in football, wrestling and track and a positive influence on everyone he met. Even though we ran into each other after college, we didn't resume our friendship until Jack and I became reunited at our 40th reunion at CBC. By then Jack had begun his deteriation and we found friendship and comfort in being with one another again. Our circle grew and we found more CBC grads to hasng around with. 3 years before Covid hit, we formed a group of Jack, me, Bob Olsen and Jim Bruno to do an annual 2 week road trip with Jack seeing the USA sites that we were interested. Each trip produced hundreds of "All About Jack" stories that we'll treasure always {some cannot be shared]. Covid ended our road trips just before we were to travel to the SW. Then Jim Bruno passed away from cancer and now Jack has left us so it's only Bobby and me from the "all About Jack" road crew. I loved him like a brother and will miss him greatly. RIP, Jack
