Julia Terry Barnes

Barnes, Julia Terry On Monday, December 24th, 2018, Christmas Eve, Julia Terry Barnes died after a long struggle with a pulmonary illness. She was 83 years old. Julia attended Mary Institute in St. Louis, MO, graduated from Miss Porter's School in Farmington, CT and attended Briarcliff Junior College in Briarcliff Manor, NY. In 1953, she was crowned the Queen of Love and Beauty for that year's Veil Prophet Ball. Over the years, Julia was a supporter of the St. Louis Symphony and the Charless Home. She was involved with the restoration of the historic Richard J. Oglesby Mansion in Decatur, IL, and had an interest in nature conservancy efforts. In 1960, Julia married William Barnes III (deceased) of Decatur, Illinois. She is survived by her son, Charles L. Barnes (Laura), daughter, Julia B. May (Herbert), brother, W.T. Terry, Jr. (Val), sister, Elizabeth Terry, sister-in-law, Gloria Van Norden and her 5 grandchildren, Herbert A. May IV, Julia May, William W. Barnes, Charles L. Barnes, Jr. and Kathryn D. Barnes. The family would also like to express their most sincere gratitude to all Julia's caregivers and especially, Elaine Foster, for her steadfast professionalism and compassion. Julia was interred at a private family service in Elkhart, IL. A memorial service is planned for late Spring/early Summer 2019. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Louis Symphony, Oglesby Mansion, 421 W. William St., Decatur, IL 62522 or the Little Traverse Conservancy, Harbor Springs, Michigan 49740.
