No one can prepare you for a loss; it comes like a swift wind. However, take comfort in knowing God is with you and your family lean on him in your time of need. Please accept my most heartfelt condolences.

I first met Mike when we were selected to be part of the original faculty at Mc Cluer North. Although my chemistry classroom was about as far as you could get from the PE Department, our paths would cross because I was a football fan. On one occasion, while working the chain gang, I recall a player describing an opponent as a woman. Mike gestured towards me and commented, So is she. The player then chose a different descriptor . . .
When he had part of his leg amputated, he faced the situation with grace and optimism. He even joined a wheelchair basketball team! He was an inspiration to his players, who regarded him both with respect and affection. Coach Ballard will always be remembered by those of us who shared in the excitement of opening a new school. My deepest sympathy to his family.

Mike and I taught and coached together at @MN long ago. I tried several times over the last few years to find him at BJs and asked around. Guess I didnt try hard enough. We had fun times and great memories. Im so sorry and my thoughts are with the kids and Deborah.
