Edgar Burnett "Cheeka" McVeay

Edgar Burnett "Cheeka" McVeay, 74, of Gautier, died Saturday, December 25, 2004, at his home with his family after a lengthy illness.

He was born October 11, 1930, in Biloxi, MS. Mr. McVeay was a retired Baptist Minister, and general contractor. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Mr. McVeay was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Gautier.

He was preceded in death by his father, W.L. "Son" McVeay; his mother, Katie Naomi Grimsley McVeay; his sister, Dorothy McVeay Rouse; and his brother, Dale McVeay.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Quintal McVeay; his son, James McVeay (wife, Shelley) of Gautier; daughters, Edie Belue (husband, Jeff) of Rogersville, Ala., Dianne Hinkle (husband, Harold) of Palmyra, Ind., Billie Jean Moser of Auburn, Wash., and Kay Clum of Merced, Cal.; granddaughters, Taylor McVeay, of Gautier; Alicia Hugie of Merced, Cal., Cristyn Aquino of Merced, Cal., Heather Larsen of Auburn, Wash., Michelle Selsprom of Auburn, Wash., and Jennifer Belue of Rogersville, Ala; grandsons, James Ian McVeay of Gautier; Jay Cox (wife, Teresa) of Lucedale, MS; Joel Cox (wife, Carina) of Palmyra, Ind., Richard Selsprom of Auburn, Wash., Jason Selsprom of Auburn, Wash., Justin Belue of Rogersville, Ala., and Jordan Belue of Rogersville, Ala; great-grandchildren, Gabriel Selsprom and Noah Larsen both of Auburn, Wash., Angel Zabel and Alonzo Zabel both of Merced, Cal., Destini Cox, Randi Cox, Ariel Cox, Parker Cox and Peyton Cox, all of Lucedale, MS; sisters, Doris Clifford (husband, Jimmy) of Gautier; Kay Wheat (husband, Richard) of Ocean Springs; brothers, Bob McVeay (wife, Millie) Jim McVeay (wife, Dimple) both of Ocean Springs, Darryl McVeay (wife, Carol), Olly McVeay both of Gautier, MS; Larry McVeay Sr. (wife, Diane), of Pascagoula; and Alton McVeay of Gautier. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the many friends and family who loved and prayed for us during this journey. We would also like to thank everyone at Quality Hospice. A special thank you to Scott Rogers, Nancy Nelson, Roberta Pathel, Carmony, and LaCarol for their never ending care and love.

Visitation will be Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, 6:00- 9:00pm at O'Bryant-O'Keefe Funeral Home, Gautier, MS.

Funeral Services will be Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, 11:00am, at Bethel Baptist Church in Gautier with Rev. Bill Barton officiating. Friends may visit one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Quality Hospice, 999 Howard Avenue, Biloxi, MS 39530, in Mr. McVeay's memory.

Pallbearers will be his nephews, Larry McVeay, Jr., Billy Stork, Jr., Kevin Rouse, Carrol Clifford, III, David McVeay, Brant McVeay, and Jeremiah McVeay.

i am here if you need frined but god always there.

my health didnt let me be there for you all but i am prayering for you each,
