Jimmie Gilbert Obituary

Jimmie Dale Gilbert

, 70, of Spartanburg, SC, died Monday, April 11, 2005, at Mary Black Memorial Hospital.

Born July 12, 1934, in Quitman, LA, he was the son of the late John Martin and Mary Ella Lackey Gilbert and the husband of Linda Phillips Gilbert. He was retired from the University of South Carolina-Upstate and Louisiana Tech University as a Professor of Mathematics. He received his B.S. degree from Louisiana Tech University and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Auburn University. He co-authored many college level mathematics textbooks with his wife. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters, Donna Bryan and Lisa McConathy, both of Quitman, LA, and Beckie Gill of Biloxi, MS; three sons, Martin Gilbert and Dan Gilbert, both of Quitman, LA, and Matt Gilbert of Glendale, CA; five granddaughters, Beth Bryan, Mary Kliebert, Adrienne Bryan, and Malissa Gilbert, all of Quitman, LA, and Jill Jones of Ruston, LA; and three grandsons, James McConathy, Eric Villarreal, and Cole Gilbert, all of Quitman, LA.

Services will be held in Quitman, LA.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Quitman United Methodist Church, 146 Brooks Chapel Road, Quitman, LA 71268; or Corporate Angel Network Inc., Westchester County Airport, One Loop Road, White Plains, NY 10604.

J.F. Floyd Mortuary in Spartanburg is in charge of the the arrangements. An online guest register is available at www.floydmortuary.com.
