Joseph Lukaszewicz Obituary

LUKASZEWICZ Lukaszewicz, Dr. Joseph, 85, of Fort Lauderdale, FL, formerly of Syracuse, NY, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2002 at Holy Cross Hospital. Dr. Lukaszewicz was born in New York City of Polish parents. From age 12 until after World War II he grew up and was educated in Poland. Because of the outbreak of WWII he had to complete his Medical Studies in Kaunas, Lithuania. After the War he worked with the Polish Red Cross, and then assisted in the coordination of Medical Relief efforts for all of post-war Poland as a member of the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration. Upon returning to the United States he served as a Lt. Commander with the United States Public Health Service. He then settled in Syracuse, NY where he practiced General and Family Medicine for 35 years, and served on the staff of Community General Hospital, Crouse-Irving Hospital and St. Joseph's Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, the former Maria Urszula Buczek; daughter, Christina Hellen of Lutz, FL; son Dr. John Lukaszewicz and his wife Carol of Syracuse, NY; grandsons Michael of Syracuse, NY and Matthew and his wife Debra and great-grandson Dylan of Coral Springs, FL. The family will receive friends in the funeral home Sunday, September 22nd from 6 to 8 P.M. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 P.M. Burial will take place in Syracuse, NY.
