Margaret Smith Obituary

Margaret (Peggy) Smith of Fort Lauderdale passed away peacefully on August 4, 2018, while in hospice care after a lengthy battle with heart and lung disease. She left us much too soon. Peggy was born in Philadelphia, PA on November 19, 1938, the daughter of Henry and Marjory Haas. She lived briefly with her older sister Elizabeth in New York, returned home and worked at several Philadelphia hospitals, and then moved to Fort Lauderdale in 1979. At that time, she embarked on a 25-year career as a medical technician at Holy Cross Hospital. After retiring at the end of 2004, she developed many new interests and made numerous new friends. She joined the Fort Lauderdale Bridge Club, where she played regularly for many years and made many friends. She also resumed bowling after a long layoff and competed in several leagues. For years, she walked five miles each day for exercise. And she joined the Fort Lauderdale Orchid Society and collected numerous orchids and other garden plants. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents and by her older sister, Elizabeth Pomerantz. She leaves behind her best friend and loving husband of 20 years, David Smith, who misses her greatly. She brought a burst of sunshine into his life every single day. She also leaves behind her nephew, Aaron Pomerantz, of Washington, D.C., her niece, Eva Pomerantz Kimme, of Champaign-Urbana, IL, her stepson, Gregory Smith, of Tacoma, WA, and her stepdaughter, Laura Smith, of Satellite Beach, FL. A memorial service to celebrate Peggy's life will be held on Friday, August 17, 2018, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m., at the Kalis-McIntee Funeral and Cremation Center, 2505 North Dixie Highway, Wilton Manors, FL.

I am deeply saddened to hear about Peggy. She was one of my closest friends in Phila. with whom I spent many good times. She was bright a light in everyone's life. She will be greatly missed.
