Thomas Vaught Obituary

Thomas Edgar "Tommy" Vaught

January 30, 1942 - April 26, 2025

Thomas Edgar "Tommy" Vaught, 83, of Wytheville, went home to his Lord and Savior Saturday, April 26, 2025, at his home that he built and was so very proud of.

Per his wishes, no funeral services will be held. Family and friends will gather at his home on a later date to celebrate the Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, and Friend to many that he is.

He was born in Rural Retreat, the son of the late Edgar R Vaught and Ina Lindamood Vaught. At the age of eight, the family moved to Wytheville. He was a graduate of George Wythe High School. He worked/owner of Hobert N. Grubb for a total of 44 years. He had a personal relationship with Jesus and was a member of West End Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Ina. Father-in-law and mother-in-law, CC and Tessie Robinson King. Brothers-in-law, Charlie R. Jones, Emory Roope, Charles King and Walter Foster. Sisters-in-law, Barbara King Cline, Helen King Roope. Nephew, Dr. E. Michael Foster.

Survivors include his wife and soul mate of 63 years, Edna King Vaught; two sons, Thomas Edgar Vaught II (Tara) and Bradley Wayne Vaught (Bill). Five grandchildren, Brennan Mccoy Vaught (Theresa), Gavin Bradley Vaught (Dani), Caxton Edgar Vaught, Riley Jo Vaught (Lacy) and Reece Andrew Vaught, "All of whom were the apple of his eye". One great-granddaughter is expected in May 2025 (Gavin and Dani). His sister, Betty Vaught Foster of Maidens. Sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Peggy and Ronald Smith of Charlotte, NC, Joan Stuart of Wytheville, Charlotte and Terry Smelser of Wytheville, Tim Cline of Sharpsburg, GA, Joyce King of Wytheville; and brother-in-law, Richard "Dickie" and Naomi King of Wytheville, VA. Nineteen loving nieces and nephews.

Tommy loved to spend time with his family hunting, fishing and maintaining his property. There were many seasons of camping and then boating on Claytor Lake. He and Edna chose to spend their retirement helping raise all five grandsons. All five grandsons were very active in sports, and not many games were missed by their greatest fans. He made a world of friends maintaining appliances, wiring homes and installing sources of heating in many Wythe and Bland County homes. When he was not working, he was out riding one of his tractors on not only his property but his sons. He was his son's best friend. He would, in fact, give the "shirt off his back" for his family and friends.

The family cannot thank Amanda Kitts of Senior Home Share, Pam Kline and Heather Kapranos of Hospice of SWVA, Dr. Chad Williams and staff and WCCH for all they did for Tommy.

The family will receive friends at his home in Granite Acres. They request a phone call before arrival. Memorial donations can be made to The Millwald Theater as Tommy was proud of his hometown Main Street.
