Cecile Rosser Obituary

Cecile Louise Rosser Cecile Louise Rosser, age 85, and a resident of Westminster Oaks, died on April 8, 2008 in an automobile accident. A memorial service will be held at Westminster Oaks, Gallery at the Parry Building, on Friday, April 25 at 2 p.m. EDT. Mrs. Rosser was born in Benton Harbor, Michigan, on October 27, 1922, the daughter of John and Miriam Mogil. She graduated early from high school and trained to be a nurse in Toledo, Ohio. She met her first husband, Herbert Boyer Marshall, Jr., on a double blind date but he was with the other girl. Cecile and Herb married on April 18, 1943. Their only child, Alan George Marshall, was born May 26, 1944 while his father served in the Army during World War II. The family moved to San Diego, California in 1950 because Mr. Marshall, an engineer, worked for Convair. After obtaining her degree summa cum laude from San Diego State College, Cecile worked as a school nurse for the San Diego City Schools until her retirement. While working she earned two masters degrees. After she was widowed in 1962, she married William Frederick Rosser, an architect, on June 30, 1965. He died on January 14, 1990. In 2002 she moved from San Diego to Westminster Oaks in Tallahassee. While in Tallahassee, Cecile was an active volunteer at Westminster Oaks and in the community. She also loved to travel. The week before her death she was honored with the Heart of Hospice for her work with children who have lost a loved one. She is survived by her son, Alan George Marshall (and wife Marilyn), of Tallahassee, Fla., a granddaughter, Gwendolyn Scott Andrey (and husband Jeffrey and great-granddaughters Emily and Jennifer), of La Jolla, California and a grandson, Brian George Marshall (and wife Sarah and great-grandson Graham Boyer), of Chicago, Illinois. She is also survived by William Rosser's children, Carlyn Duffy (and husband Patrick and their sons Padraic and Conor), of Pacific Palisades, California; Roberta Zito of California and Kathleen Rosser of Huachuca City, Arizona. In addition, she has two nieces, Pam Cook (and husband John and their children, Bradley and Lauren) and Joan Reasoner (and husband Irl and children Matthew and Sally and stepson Erick). Both nieces and their families live in Columbus, Ohio. Cecile is preceded in death by her parents, her only sibling, George Mogil, M.D., and her two husbands. In memory of Cecile and in lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Caring Tree of Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL 32308, (850-878-5310).

Ms. Cecile was one of the most generous and caring women I have ever met. She was a dear friend and taught me many lessons about listening and aging without ever getting old. She was an angel to our program, The Caring Tree, and the children we serve. She left a lasting impression on my heart. She is dearly missed.

Dear Family and Friends of Ms. Cecile,

Ms. Cecile graced my life and the lives of so many others, including the young people at the Caring Tree Program of Big Bend Hospice who meant so much to her. "Young people need someone on their side," she often said to me. "They sure have a lot to handle." Ms. Cecile lent her humor, her passion, her energy, and her time to improve the lives of others. She always made time to listen in a world that is often too busy. She took time to spread random acts of kindness that always brightened the day. I think about how she affirmed life in everything she did, going about her life with a quiet and honest gusto. She is and will continue to be deeply missed and always remembered.

Dear Alan and family, So sad to hear about your mom. I enjoyed making Cecile an extra hot cappuccino and croissant several mornings a week at Sage restaurant. I will miss our morning chats. She was one of the lovliest people I've ever known. Lori Bluni
