Lora Kirkland Obituary
Lora Lillian Johnson Kirkland 86, was born January 8, 1927 and died October 19, 2013. Parents: The late Jimmy Lee Johnson and Nellie Johnson of Calera, Alabama. She was married to the late Ambrose Lee Kirkland Jr. She was employed at Sunland Hospital and Elberta Crate Factory and retired from the Florida Probation and Parole Department in 1989. Mrs. Kirkland graduated fron FAMU in 1974 with a degree in Sociology.
After retirement, Mother Kirkland worked tirelessly at Greater Mt. Zion PB Church as a Sunday school teacher, member of the Mother's/Deaconess Board, regular paticipant with Bible study, and teacher during Vacation Bible School and Fall Bible study workshops. She was a long time participant with the Old West Florida Primitive Baptist Association and Church School Convention, representing Greater Mt. Zion PB Church several years as a field agent. She was an active member of the H.E. Daniels Order of Eastern Star, holding the positions of Matron and Deputy. She also participated in the Democratic Women's Club and the Tallahassee Stars. Mrs. Kirkland leaves to mourn her passing six sons; Leslie Kirkland of Tallahassee; Tommy Kirkland (Karin) of Landstuhl Germany; Anthony Kirkland of Dayton,Ohio; Kenneth Kirkland (Linda), Jimmie Kirkland and Ambrose L. Kirkland lll, of Tallahassee; one step son: Eric Kirkland (Sherri) of Los Angeles, California; four daughters: Deborah Kirkland of Tallahassee; Claudia Jean Osborne (Everett) of Lakewood,CA; Angela Kirkland and Reba Kirkland of Tallahassee; one daughter-in-law: Mary H. Kirkland; one brother: Eli Johnson (Sharon) of Birmingham, AL;, two sisters: Essie L. McCall of Birmingham,AL; Olean Johnson Coleman of Calera, AL; one brother-in-law; Raymond McGaugh of Omaha, NE. Mrs. Kirkland was preceded in death by her son, Douglas L. Kirkland Sr. and her daughter, Loretta "Susie" Kirkland. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 26, 2013 at 3:00pm at Old West Florida Enrichment Center with burial at Southside Cemetery.

My condolences to all the Kirklands. Sorry I could not make the service but Mother Kirkland's memory will live on in my spirit. She was a wonderful, kind-hearted Woman of God who loved people. I will remember her that way. May God give you strength during these times.

Kirkland Family:

Mother Kirkland was my Sunday School teacher at Greater Mt Zion. I always enjoyed her class because she was a wonderful teacher. Angela now teaches the class and is also a great teacher like her Mom. Rest in Peace Mother Kirkland.
