Nancy and I were roommates all through medical school at St. Louis University and for one year during our residency at Loyola Medical Center in Chicago. I was maid of honor at her wedding and she was maid of honor at mine. I knew her parents and siblings over the years and they welcomed me into their family with open arms. I also met and watched Molly, Maggie and Tess grow over the years. Nancy's joy and laughter was a breath of fresh air for everyone to enjoy. She was the smartest person to walk the face of the planet with a heart overflowing with kindness and love. I miss you my dear friend and think of you often. Blessings.

I just learned of Nancy's death via the St. Louis U alum magazine. So saddened to learn of her premature death.
She and I were roommates our first year of medical school. I also knew her at PLU where we were both chemistry majors. She was wicked smart and I was in awe of her. She was also, as someone else mentioned, down to earth, practical and a delightlfully quirky and cheery person.
Though I didn not have contct with her after med school, I remember her fondly. My thoughts are with her family, friends and colleagues.

We first met Nancy when she and AJ had just moved to Tallahassee in the mid-90's. Our children were born around the same time, so we knew Nancy from the shared experience of being parents, raising children in the same town. We also knew her as the person who helped us navigate the medical system in Tallahassee when we needed help. She was always there to help in any way that she could and we will always be thankful for her kindness towards us and our children. She was the same way with everyone she knew; always thoughtful, giving, and caring.
Forever in our hearts, we will miss her friendship.

Dr. VanVessem was a gift to all who knew her. I was her pediatrician's nurse and she was so appreciative of any help she got in regard to her precious babies. Her humility was endearing. I knew her for many years after the girls were older and she never failed to impress me with her concern for others. She was so sweet! Her daughters deserved many more years of her love. I am so sorry!!

Nancy was one of the first physicians I met when we moved to Tallahassee in 2003, and I was so impressed by her dedication, foresight and keeping the patient at the center of everything. I pray for all of us to keep her vision of the future going and for her family.

Dr Van Vessem was physician to my husband and I when we were married.
It is with great sadness that I hear of her passing. She was caring and compassionate. She always listened and took her time.
My heart goes out to her family and close friends. She will always live in our memories.

I was privileged to work with Nancy in my 10 years at CHP. I was in awe every time I was in her presence and hold her in high regard. She was a visionary and yet managed to be approachable and down to earth. She will be missed. My deepest condolences to her family and to all my friends at CHP.

When Dr. Nancy Van Vessem first came to work at Capital Health Plan, she brought a breath of fresh air, and great determination to improve the quality and compassion to medical care in our area. I was one of the medical providers there for a number of years, and remember fondly that advocacy. Her energy and enthusiasm were hard to match. She initiated many programs that provided outreach and care to the community, and, also obviously adored her family. There are many in Tallahassee that grieve her loss and untimely death. My heart goes out to her family and I hope they will find some comfort in all of the amazing memories that they must have. She did her best to make the most of her life and of her family, and also to improve the well-being of those around her.
