Barry COHEN Obituary
Barry was a champion for the underdog. He was a voice for the voiceless. He believed that regardless of title, position, power or wealth-no one was better or more important than anyone else, ever, and walked that walk. He had an unparalleled passion for social justice and an outright inability to back down when he saw an injustice. He had the unique ability to accept people for who they are-with all their flaws, and to give them the benefit of the doubt. He loved people and loved making people laugh. He was a force, and he made the world a better place. He will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his adoring family: his wife, Barbara and their son, Barry Alexander Cohen; children, Geena (Dennis) Zaslavsky, Steven (Carrie) Cohen, Kevin Cohen (Amy); and his sister, Cynthia Cohen Wright and his brothers by marriage, Stanley Wright and Les Barnett. He was recently predeceased by his beloved sister, Hope Barnett. He also leaves a legacy of love and dignity to his beloved grandchildren, Justin, Brett, and Ava Zaslavsky, and Elayna Cohen; nieces and nephews, Mark Wright (Lindsey), Julie Wright Halbert (Jim), Devra Wright, Irving Barnett, and Ben Barnett (Dana); and his many great-nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A private interment and public memorial service was held on Sunday, September 23. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in his honor to the Hillsborough County Bar Association Foundation, or the Southern Poverty Law Center.

My sincere sympathy on the loss of Barry. He was one of my most colorful and funny kindergarten dads during young Barry's first year at Berkeley. I know he will be missed very much. Both Barbara, Barry and the entire extended family are in my prayers.

My Late Aunt knew Barry in Plant High School and told me he treated everyone equal cause it didn't matter which side of tracks you lived on Rich or Poor and told me how popular he was and I have talked to his son Steven on the phone who is just like his Father . Barry had Heart for people and did not matter if you were poor or rich

Barry was truly a great person. He loved his family, his friends and the people he worked
with and represented. I have some wonderful memories of our time at Plant High School. He
was our class president in 1957 and starting
point guard on our basketball team. It was great
to see the success Barry had throughout his years here in Tampa. He will truly be missed by all of us that knew him.

My sincerest, heartfelt condolences to the Cohen family. Mr. Cohen (who I adoringly called B.A.C.) was truly one of a kind. I had the privilege of working at his law firm for over 15 years and got to witness, first hand, his legal skill. He was truly passionate about his craft. Not only did he teach me about the law, he taught me about life. He was a great mentor to me and was definitely a father figure in my life. I will truly miss his infectious smile, his wonderful stories, and his huge heart. But most of all, I will miss my friend.
May you all find peace and comfort during this difficult time and please know how much he was truly loved.

Dear Barry was a great neighbor, with us meeting in a funny instance over our pets.
Year later, My middle son was in desperate trouble.He will never forget that Barry was the first and only person to visit him in the Pinellas County jail.

Barry was bigger than a giant. He was a mountain who left an undeniable mark on our community in general, as well as all of the lawyers, clients, judges and employees. He had an enormous impact on my life and career for which I will be forever grateful. Most of all, he absolutely adored his family and served as a guiding light for all of us. How he will be missed!

I think of Barry a lot what a wonderful person he was to me. I work at the Hyatt as waitress and he ask for me because I gave my full attention and try to work fast and hard so he could get in and out of the restaurant for his important client or case he was working on. He is going to be miss tremendously!

Although no words can really help to ease the loss you bear, just know that you are very close in every thought and prayer.
I admired Mr Barry Cohen
for his strength of character and his faith. I will continue to be inspired by the actions he took and the things he said while he was alive. He will live in my memories.
