John Mulry Obituary

MULRY, John J. After a brave battle with lung cancer, John passed away October 2, 2024. He was born February 5, 1945 to John and Evelyn Mulry in Springfield, Massachusetts. John grew up in Worcester. In 1964, he graduated high school from the North Yarmouth Academy-Maine. John then attended the University of Tampa, where he participated in Student Government, Debate and joined Theta Chi fraternity. He graduated in 1968, receiving the Outstanding Male Student recognition. In 1971, John married Jill Katcher and later that year was drafted by the U.S.Army. He served with the 716th Military Police Battlion, 18th Brigade in Saigon, Vietnam from 1971-72. Once home, John served as a Deputy Sheriff with the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, an Investigator with the State Attorney's Office, and Chief Deputy of the Sheriff's Office from 1988 - 1995. He returned to the State Attorney's Office in 1995, retiring in 2003. John was a friend of Bill's and served as a counselor for others in recovery. In October 1997, John married Marianne Pasha. They enjoyed traveling and visiting family. John was predeceased by his parents, and sisters, Patricia Mitchell and Laureen O'Connor. He is survived by his sisters, Mary Jane (Jack) Mooney and Catherine Melanson, wife Marianne Pasha; daughter, Jennifer Mulry; grandson, Gabriel Roth; ex-wife, Jill Mulry, and many cousins, nieces and nephews from New England to California. John was an avid sports fan, especially football. He also loved the Christmas holidays; working on his annual Christmas light display at home. John grew in his faith, enjoyed reading and spending time with family and friends. Husband, brother, father, friend, John's spirit, humor, generosity and kindness will be missed. The family will receive friends at Brett Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 12, from 5-7 pm. A prayer service is at 6:30 pm. The funeral Mass is at 10 am, Wednesday, November 13, at The Cathedral of St. Jude, followed by a commitment service at Bay Pines National Cemetery, and reception.
