Joseph Savarese Obituary

SAVARESE, Joseph A. Jr., 82, died July 7, 2007. Joe was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Suzanne Harris Savarese; sister, Frances Savarese Hearon; parents, Joseph A. and Frances Hedrick Savarese. He is survived by his son, Joseph A. Savarese III; daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia S. Rosier and T. Michael Rosier; grandson, Joseph Patrick Rosier; granddaughter, Mica Suzanne Rosier; nieces, Winnifred Frankland, Jennifer Frankland Sink (Jim), Hedi Hearon Patrick (Tom) and Shelly Green; nephews, Howard Frankland II (Cyndi), and Chuck Hearon (Carolyn), Chris Green (Pam), Lee Green and Gordon Green (Diane). Joe was born and raised in Tampa where he spent his entire business career and retired from Tampa Electric Company. He was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman. He was a past president of the Tampa Tarpon Tournament and scored a hole-in-one at Palma Ceia Golf Course in 1989. Joe attended Gorrie Elementary School, Woodrow Wilson Junior High School, H.B. Plant High School, Jesuit High School, University of Florida and University of Michigan. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla, Tampa Yacht and Country Club, Palma Ceia Golf and Country Club, past director, University Club of Tampa, past President, Exchange Club, Romeo Club and the West Tampa Men' s Club. He was a past member of Merrymakers Club and The Tampa Club. Joe was a lifelong member of St. Andrew' s Episcopal Church of Tampa and attended St. Andrew' s Episcopal Church of Boca Grande, vestry. Joe served during World War II in the 75th and 79th Infantry Divisions. He was awarded two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. He was a past chairman of the Committee of 100, Secretary of the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority, director of the Tampa Civil Service Board, president of the American Red Cross of Tampa, director of the Tampa General Hospital Foundation, chairman of Employer Support for the Guard and Reserve of Florida, and director of the American Cancer Society. Joe also served on the board of directors for many area banks. A funeral service will take place 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2007, at St. Andrew' s Episcopal Church, 509 E. Twiigs St., Tampa. The family would especially like to thank Nancy and the staff at Melech Hospice House for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be given to LifePath Hospice, the Tampa General Hospital Foundation, St. Andrew' s Episcopal Church of Tampa, or a charity of your choosing.
