Mr. Albritten was my 6th grade teacher 39 years ago. I remember him proudly. He was candid, smart, and fair. He is one of my fondest memories as a teacher.
It was second period of my first day of middle school, I knew hardly anyone, but met some of my best future friends in his class. In no small part because of the discussions that would be had that he led.
I always loved / hated the way he would point at us w/ his middle finger to talk. As a 12 year old, that was both heh-heh funny and insulting, which was fun.
A couple weeks in to the school year, I was walking up to class through those awful staircases at Azalea, some other kid did something to a big kid to torque him off.... the big kid thought it was me and turned around and clocked me good in the eye, said something about not messin w/ him.... wasn't me, no matter. When I got to class, Mr. Albritten saw my face, my tears, and asked for help from another teacher or helper.... and took me to every class in the entire school, and the gym, and the outside fields, trying to help find the boy who plugged me. It happened so fast there was little chance I would recognize him, plus I was a scared little 6th grader being asked to call out a likely 8th grader.... nope. But we talked a lot while we walked. It didn't matter at the end of the day that the kid didn't get held accountable, it wasn't that big a deal, but Mr. Albritten will always be in my heart for that and several other supports.
My sincerest condolences.

Mr. Albritten taught me and my three brothers about social studies and about life. He pushed us all to be better than we thought we could be. I still recall now several decades later the sign he had in his classroom stating, “Our goals are high”, a sign I quoted in my Valedictorian speech I gave at Boca Ciega High School years later. Mr. Albritten impacted countless lives as a teacher and also as a devotedly religious person and deacon. I’ve stayed in touch with him over the years, and he’s made the effort to attend several milestone events in my life over the years. He talked with such pride of this family whenever we talked, either in person or over the phone. He was so kind to occasionally just call me out of the blue just to check in. I’ve saved several kind voice messages he left when I happened to not be available when he called, since they were always so supportive, and caring. When we did talk, we would always close in a heartfelt, inspirational prayer that he would lead. Mr. Albritten was very supportive to my mother as her health curtailed, and so supportive to my family when she, and my father before her, passed on to join our Lord. I’ll miss you Mr. Albritten, but I know you’re now in the loving arms of God, and such a wonderful place that must be! Please be sure to look up my mom and dad for me! Caryl Brown

Mr. Albritten was more than a teacher. He was a man of God who walked the talk. He comforted my mom in her final days and remembered my brothers and I by name. My spiritual conversations with him will be remembered. Our prayers go out to Irma, the rest of his family, and all those who were touched by this great man.
