Marsha YOUNG Obituary

YOUNG, Marsha M. "Nana" age 72, of Tierra Verde, died on Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013, at Suncoast Hospice Care Center South Pinellas. Born in Batavia, NY, she came here in 1994 from Pennsylvania. She graduated from Coudersport Area Jr. Sr. High School and Eastman Dental Dispensary School of Dental Hygiene, Class of 1961, in Rochester, NY. She also attended the University of Pittsburgh. She practiced dental hygiene in public practices and in public schools in Pennysyvania. She was involved in writing and the administration of several grant programs focused on dental hygiene for children and the disabled. Marsha was a very active member of Park United Methodist Church of Coudersport, PA, and the American Cancer Society in Coudersport, PA. She was one of the first volunteer EMT's on the Coudersport Ambulance Society. Marsha was on the board of the Swiss Mountain Condo complex in Seven Springs, PA, as well as President of the Bayway Condominiums in Tierra Verde for several years, and was President of the Tierra Verde Community Association for six years. She also served as the Chairman of Pinellas County Parks and Recreation Board for two years. Locally, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church of St. Petersburg. She was blessed to share the same birthday as her daughter, Karen. The greatest loves of her life were her two grandchildren (and her proudest accomplishments), Meredith Little and Cole Weaver, and she found great joy in their activities and accomplishments. Marsha's interests included Penn State Nittany Lions, attending her grandchildren's swim meets, tennis matches and baseball games. She was the #1 Shorecrest Chargers Swim Team and Tennis Fan and positively impacted the lives of so many Shorecrest families over the years. She also enjoyed NASCAR, traveling and crossword puzzles. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard A. and Ruth S. Mansfield. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Thur W. Young; her daughter, Martha C. (Jerry) Little of Tierra Verde; her daughter, Karen Y. (Jerry) Weaver of Jacksonville, FL; her granddaughter, Meredith E. Little; her grandson, Cole E. Weaver; and several cousins in Pennsylvania and New York State. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Carol Hoyt, Otto Bundy, Patty and Mike Barnes, Barbara Fickinger, Judy Regg, Christine Nelson, Linda Whitesell, Dr. Ignacio Sotolongo and Dr. Melissa Alsina and team as well as the Suncoast Hospice team. Marsha and her family appreciated the support from the following families: Fajardo, McKeage, Swanson, Rau, Ameen, Calle, King, Trentacoste, Harvard, Nelson, McQueen, Hickey, Green, Toombs, Hess, Smith, Jennings and many others. At Marsha's request, there will not be a Memorial Service but a Celebration of Life will be held in the coming weeks with details forthcoming. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations be made in her name to Park United Methodist Church, First United Methodist Church, H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center, or Suncoast Hospice.
