To Gen. Barrow's Children,
It was my pleasure to serve under your father's leadership at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island. Please accept my condolences for his final departure to his heavenly home. I expect that he will remain on duty guarding the streets of gold and spending an eternity with his Heavenly Father. It was my joy to be with his family, friends and fellow Marines and other brothers-in-arms when he was given a well-deserved send-off. May the God of Peace comfort you with fond memories in the days to come. I believe Gen. Barrow was instrumental to my never having to say a single curse word to the recruits under my charge the entire time of my tour at Parris Island, from 1971 to 1973. Semper Fi!

I am proud to have called General Robert Barrow a friend. He was the greatest American I've ever known, and I've know quite a few. General Barrow stood for all of the special attributes that made the Marine Corps what it is today. He, and his wife Patty, were the most wonderful and loving couple. My prayers and thoughts are with General Barrow, Patty, and his family.

I met this honorable man at Afton Villa in 2005 while visiting Mrs. Gen Trimble. I knew of his military career and was so honored to meet him. I have a photo of him and Mrs. Trimble in my Afton Villa photo gallery at http://www.pbase.com/septembermorn and since his passing there have been over 150 people who have looked at the photo. That shows what a fine person he was and how people admired and respected him.
May the angels lead him into Paradise.

A TRUE AMERICAN HERO!!!
I had the honor of meeting General Barrow and his wife, Mrs. Patty, shortly after my son joined the Marine Corps. He helped me to accept Travis' mission with Honor & Pride. He took a very special interest in a young marine that he had never laid eyes on. He hand wrote him a note of encouragement and acknowledged his efforts in OCS. His example & committment will forever live in the hearts of those lives he has touched.

Dearest Mary and Barbara,
The loss of a parent is something children of all ages dread yet if one lives long enough it is a day all children will face. I am so sorry to read of your father's passing. I remember so distinctly sitting in Power Dorm at LSU and hearing the both of you speak so foundly and so proudly of your wonderful father. He was a national treasure and the ultimate example of this nation's Greatest Generation. I hope you find solace in the knowledge that he has been rewarded by our Lord for a life well lived. Truly, Colette Flowers Leonard
