Robert Manahan Obituary

MANAHAN, Robert Charles "Bob" Following a long battle with esophageal cancer, Bob died on Sept. 8, 2008 at age 83. Born to Irish immigrants in Westchester County, NY, Bob was raised in Briarcliff Manor. He graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (Worcester, MA) where he was President of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity and played catcher on the varsity baseball team. He earned a degree in mechanical engineering. He served with the U.S. Navy during WWII mainly in the South Pacific. In 1982, he retired to Marco Island, FL after working 33 years with Johns-Manville, most lately as manager of marketing to the Federal Government in Washington, DC. In 2002, he and his wife, Connie J. (nee Wakenshaw) moved to Hudson, where he was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, but also attended St. Theresa's, as well as First United Methodist Church of Hudson. In his professional years, he was president of the Thermal Insulation Manufacturer's Association Government committee, Executive Secretary of Construction Research Council and an active participant of many study groups of like kind. Golf and ice skating were his principal sporting activities. Predeceased by parents, Patrick F. and Elizabeth A. Manahan, and two brothers, Irving and Gerald, Bob is mourned by loving wife, Connie J. Manahan; eight children; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Friends and associates are welcome to leave condolences and memories at the website www.mem.com (search MANAHAN, Robert). A memorial service is to be held at Gate of Heaven cemetery on Oct. 18, 2008 in Hawthorne, NY.
