Alicia Driscoll Obituary

IN LOVING MEMORY ALICIA MARY BURNS DRISCOLL Nov. 23, 1935 - July 25, 2010 A BIRTHDAY TRIBUTE Alicia Mary Burns Driscoll was not the kind of woman whom you would have seen in a society picture or mentioned in society news. Her quiet manner was not something that would have earned her any public reward. However, if you talk to the people who knew her from personal contact they will tell you she did more to help people than many of those who are mentioned in society news. Over 20 years ago she mentored a young woman who had a child out of wedlock and made such a lasting impression on both the mother and the child they stayed in contact with her to her final days. Her Girl Scout days were not forgotten by the young ladies whom she taught how to live good lives. The people who she volunteered with her at St. Anastasia School still remembered her contribution. She volunteered to take care of the shrine at St. Marks Catholic church and organized others to help as well as helping take care of the alter linens. Her granddaughters gave her a tea party on her last Mother's day, as she had done many times for them, and presented her with tributes that would have made any Mother proud. When a young grandson mentioned he wanted to go to Alaska she never forgot it and pushed until we took all three of our 16 year old grandsons there. It was a trip we will all remember. Although the family was aware of her activities we did not realize how much of an impression she made on those she came in contact with. The best way to recognize out how many people she impressed is to point out that when she died our family was extremely touched by the outpouring of sympathy from the many friends and acquaintances, past and present, who Alicia touched.
