James LaBar Obituary

James C. LaBar

Stuart, FL

James C. LaBar, 87 years old of Bloomsburg, PA and Stuart, FL lived his life with such gusto and energy that he made an impact on everyone he touched. His amazing journey through life came to an end on January 20th, 2019 when he left his earthly body to take his place with the lord and all his loved ones who preceded him.

Born in Kingston, PA Jim grew up in Shickshinny, PA. With only a high School Education he went on to become an entrepreneur with amazing corporations in 27 states. Starting with a "Phillips 66" service station in the early '50s, Jim's business's included heavy truck dealerships, trucking, truck leasing, truck stops, auto dealerships, wholesale petroleum distributions facilities and various transportation-related businesses, casket manufacturing in Indiana and 2 champion Golf courses in north Florida. Jim and his wife Kathy's passion for Golf made building the homes and the golf facilities a labor of love. Finally, in his sixties Jim found the opportunity to purchase a Harley Davidson dealership in Stuart Florida and in typical Jim LaBar style, he built Treasure Coast Harley Davidson to be one of the most unique Harley Davidson Dealerships in the world. Known for its indoor pirate ship and Spanish fortress appearance. Many of Jim's Harley customers would become personal friends thereafter.

Business was Jim's life, work was a love. When asked how he was able to achieve this level of success and manage all his operations, he would say "I simply know how to surround myself with the best people."

Of course, Jim's charitable side was as epic as his business side. Through Jim's many, many years in business, he and his wife would continually give back to local charities and local families in the community. Whether it was in PA, FL or a national organization they would give. Jim was also there to help employees, customers, friends and family in their times of need, expecting nothing in return. Jim LaBar was one of a kind. He was a man who knew only how to be his genuine self.

He was a mentor, an inspiration, an educator to many, many people.

Sadly, Jim was proceeded in death by his daughter Lisa.

Survived by his Devoted wife Kathy, sons James and Brian, sister Shirley and many brothers and sisters-in-law plus many, many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Too many to name all.

Family and Friends will be received for a viewing: Friday, January 25th from 6pm-9pm at Treasure Coast Seawinds, 950 SE Monterey Rd, Stuart. Service to be held January 26th, 10am at Redeemer Lutheran Church 2450 SE Ocean Blvd, Stuart. Celebration of Life following the service.

To Kathy and family,
I am so sorry to hear of the sudden death of Jim. I didn't know him until I read his obituary---then I thought of him as my friend. He was enriched by the hard work he did all his life---it sounds by the many friends he had, he was the richest man around. A quote from John Bunyan describes Jim---"You have not lived today until you have done something for someone who can never repay you."
Rest in Peace, Jim
