Marjorie Williams Obituary

Marjorie J. Alexander Williams

Fort Pierce, FL

Marjorie J. Alexander Williams was born on November 10, 1947 to the late Sarah Peek Franklin and Rufus Alexander in Fort Pierce, FL. She attended local schools in the St. Lucie County Area and graduated at the age of 15 in the Class of 1964 from Lincoln Park Academy in Fort Pierce, Florida. She was so smart! On July 27, 2015 Ms. Marjorie Alexander Williams known affectionately by her family and friends as "Margie" passed away peacefully at the age of 67 years old surrounded by her family.

Margie attended Howard University in Washington, D.C. but missed her family and friends in Florida and returned to continue her studies at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU). While on campus, Marjorie was initiated into her beloved Sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc., Beta Alpha Chapter. It was through this service to all mankind that she developed strong activism and love for her St. Lucie County Community. Upon her return to St. Lucie, Marjorie was a successful Service Representative for Bellsouth, formerly Southern Bell, for over 30 years. Her retirement didn't slow her down because she continued to serve the community through the NAACP; the Democratic Women of St. Lucie County, working on voter registration drives; pioneering the Black Arts Festival; working with Lincoln Park Mainstreet Association, volunteering in St. Lucie County Schools, wherever her daughter asked her to; and mentoring young ladies in Precious Pearls, sponsored by the women of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Eta Eta Omega Chapter.

Marjorie was a woman on a mission…she dreamed big and encouraged all around her to do the same. She was a woman of quiet strength and never took credit for all the many works that she did. Yet her proudest moments came when her children, Cornelius Jackson, D'Jion Jackson-Harris, and Antonio Jackson accomplished goals and dreams. All of them used their education, dedication and compassion to continue her life's work. Her mantra, "A family works together for the common good, think teamwork," is something that will motivate them for many years to come.

An angel named Margie lived a life in such a way that beautiful memories will remain in the heart of her devoted and loving children, Sons and Daughters-in-law, Cornelius (Michelle) Jackson and Antonio (Kryste) Jackson and Daughter and Son-in-law, D'Jion Jackson-Harris (Tony). Also left to cherish her memories are three brothers, Rufus (Sandra) Alexander, Percy (Robbie) Alexander and Montague, "Monty" (Chondra) Alexander and adopted "big brother," John Williams. Her "Big Sis" Peggy Harris, Joanne (Coach) and "Baby Sis," Dawn Alexander loved her so much. Eleven grandchildren, with her first and special grandson, Chris; Peter, Sarena, Khalil, Kaelani, Madison, Mia, Phoenix; Alexander, Bryce, and Victorye. Her first and Very Special Great-grandson, Jaelin Lawrence, will forever cherish his beloved, "GG." Special Aunts, Debra (John) Blair; Eva Cooper. A host of nieces and nephews. Many Cousins, too many to count, Special friends, Curtis Johnson, Evelyn Garcia, Ruth (Cookie) Harris, and Ms. Rosemary; and an abundant number of friends; all who loved her dearly. So Ms. Marjorie Williams may your soul rest in peace; until we meet again.

Visitation: Friday August 7, 2015 from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm at Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church at 800 Avenue C, Fort Pierce, Florida 34950.

A Home Going Celebration will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church. 921 Orange Ave. Ft. Pierce, Florida 34950. Burial will follow at Sarah's Memorial Gardens.

Charitable contributions can be made in Marjorie's memory to the Pink Rose Foundation, C/O Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority, Inc. Eta Eta Omega Chapter.
