Roy Swingle Obituary
ROY C. SWINGLE Roy C. Swingle, M.D. died Wednesday, April 11, 2007, in Stuart, FL, after a brief illness. He was born on March 30, 1917, in Allegany, NY. Roy graduated from Albany State Teachers' College (now SUNY at Albany). After graduation, Roy taught high school math/ science in the Albany area for several years and attended Cornell University graduate school. Roy then attended medical school at Temple University, Philadelphia, where he received his M.D. in 1945. He completed his internship at Grasslands Hospital (now the Westchester County Medical Center) in Valhalla, NY before serving in the Army on active duty in Korea from 1946-1948. In Korea, Roy served as Assistant Corps Surgeon and then as commanding Officer of the 12th General Dispensary in Seoul, caring for both U.S. troops and Korean civilians. After leaving the Army, Roy completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Grasslands, and started private practice in Internal Medicine in Scarsdale, NY. He married Diane E. Carret in 1950, and then devoted his life to Diane, to raising their seven children in Scarsdale, NY, and to his medical practice. In addition to his private practice, Roy served for many years as Asst. Clinical Professor in Internal Medicine at New York Medical College and as Director of Medical Education at Lawrence Hospital, Bronxville, NY. Roy retired from private practice in 1985 after moving to Pawling, NY. Roy then took a position as Assoc. Director of Medical Services at Harlem Valley Psychiatric Center in Wingdale, NY where he worked until his full retirement in 1990. After spending winters in Florida for several years, Roy and Diane moved full-time to Stuart, FL in 2001. Roy's beloved wife, Diane, died several weeks before his death, on March 3, 2007. Roy was also predeceased by his parents, Rev. Jerry A. Swingle and Ida Clemmer Swingle; his two sisters, Ruth and Esther; and three brothers, Kenneth, Oral J., and Harold. Roy is survived by his brother, Paul; his seven loving children, Anne, Barbara, Carol, David, Paul, Mark, and Janet; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A private service was held.
