Samuel Coburn Obituary

Samuel "Sam" E. Coburn, 53, died June 2, 2010, at the Indian River Medical Center, Vero Beach. He was born in Brooksville and lived in Indian River County since 1993. He attended Gupton-Jones School of Mortuary Science. He was managing funeral director of Seawinds Funeral Home, Sebastian, was instrumental in its start-up and worked closely with developing the growth of Cox-Gifford-Seawinds and Davis-Seawinds funeral homes. He was active in the Sebastian Golf Club, Sebastian Elks Lodge and Sebastian Rotary Club, of which he was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a member of the Vero Beach Kiwanis Club, and president and coach of the American League of Little League Baseball in Indian River County. Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Debra Coburn of Vero Beach; son, Joshua Coburn of Vero Beach; mother, Louise Emm of Vero Beach; sisters, Susie Johns of Vero Beach and Beverley Wetherell of Indiana; and brothers, Leslie Coburn of Vero Beach and Tim Coburn of Brooksville. He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Coburn. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3375 20th St., Suite 100, Vero Beach, FL 32960. Services: Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. June 5 at Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home, Vero Beach. A celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. June 6 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Sebastian Cemetery with a reception at the Sebastian Elks Lodge. A guest book is available at seawindsfh.com/obit.php.
