David Wright Obituary

A dedicated family man, Dr. David Clinton Wright, 58, of Longview passed away June 20, 2009, at the Hospice Care Center.

He was born Nov. 5, 1950, in Longview, to Elmer and Bertha (Watland) Wright and graduated from R.A. Long High School in 1969. David earned a degree in molecular biology from the University of Washington, attended the University of Wisconsin for two years while working on his masters, and graduated from Oregon Health Science & University Hospital Medical School in 1982. David performed his radiology residency at OHSU and his neuroradiology residency at the University of Iowa in Iowa City. He returned to the local area in 1987.

David was a neuroradiologist with Longview Radiology. He was a member of the American Board of Radiology, American Society of Neuroradiology and St. Rose Catholic Church. David enjoyed spending time with his family and attending his children's activities: sports, music and academic. He also enjoyed family vacation and traveling, golf and fishing. David was soft-spoken, kind, generous and had a huge heart. He was meticulous and detail oriented, which made him an excellent radiologist and well respected in the medical community.

David married Ann Veverka in Portland Sept. 6, 1980. She survives him at home. Also surviving are two daughters, Julia (Jeff) Kegler of Seattle and Laura Wright of Spokane; a son, Kevin Wright of Tacoma; and three cousins who were like siblings, Paul Estrem of Federal Way, Esther Modliszewski of San Antonio, Texas and Karen Kerr of Yuma, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepmother, Ida Wright.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Rose Catholic Church. Father Tim Ilgen and Deacon Fred Johnson will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made to the OHSU Medical School Scholarship Fund, 1121 SW Salmon, Suite 100, Portland, OR 97205 or the St. Vincent dePaul Building Fund, P.O. Box 2957, Longview, WA 98632.

Arrangements are by Steele Chapel at Longview Memorial Park & Crematory.

To the Wright family, I worked with Dr. Wright for 13 years and I will always remember the soft spot in his heart (and his sweet tooth) for maple bars! He will be greatly missed and there is a big void in the Imaging department at SJMC. He is in the arms of our loving Father and he is at peace. Good bye Dr. Wright, it's been a pleasure knowing you.

Ann, Julia, Laura and Kevin:
My heart aches for you. I understand the huge hole that is left when someone like Dave is gone. Dave was wonderful to work with on a professional basis and I always trusted his radiological reports.

I will especially miss his gentle, kind ways and professional demeanor.

We loved going to Western baseball games with the Dave and his family, watching Kevin pitch. Dave was always such a kind and gentle man whom we enjoyed spending time with.
We are saddened for your family Ann and we will pray that you will feel God's comfort and compassion during this very difficult time.

And while we were more baseball game acquaintances than close personal friends, we will miss Dave very much and are so thankful for the memories we have with your family.

Our daughter attended CWU and played basketball with Laura. We had to move across the country and were unable to attend many games. We always appreciated Dave and Ann because they would include Lauren when going out to dinner after games or whatever. We were so grateful. We are truly in shock and though we know Dave is in a better place, we will miss him. He radiated a special peace. May God bless each of you. We love you and are praying for you.

My condolences to the family. I am very thankful that I got to work with Dr. Wright. I enjoyed teasing him about our differences in height, and I strived to make him smile at least once a day while at work. May our Heavently Father be close to each family member.

I graduated from high school with Dave in 1969. I will always remeber him as a caring individual who never had a cross word or thought about anyone. I also remember the first time he dunked a basketball in high school, it was the most excited I ever save Dave.
My condolences to Dave's family on their tragic loss.
