Catherine Judd Obituary

Mrs. C. Elizabeth (Waycott) Judd, 79, formerly of 44 Scarlett Street, West Boylston, died Monday evening, October 15, 2007 surrounded by her loving family.

Born on February 4, 1928, in Martinsville, Indiana, Betty graduated from Wellesley College in 1949 with the highest honor in Mathematics. That same year she married her husband Edward Douglas Judd, of Springfield, Massachusetts. Betty lived in West Boylston from 1965 through 1997, where she served as the first woman on the Town of West Boylston's Finance Committee and was active at Worcester's Greendale YMCA. Betty was also an avid golfer, tennis player, bridge player, and multi-talented artist and crafter. She served on the board of directors at the Worcester Country Club and the Worcester Center for Crafts. Among her other gifts to the local community, Betty volunteered at Abby's House and helped to found the Briarwood CCRC.

Betty is survived by three daughters, Catherine Judd Hirsch of Princeton, NJ, Margaret Judd Campbell of Virginia Beach, VA, and Laura Judd Linn of Aiken, SC; as well as four grandchildren, Scott Campbell, Nathan Harris, Rachel Harris, and Jared Harris; and two great-grandchildren.

There will be a memorial service on Thursday, October 18, 2007, at 3:00 PM at the Briarwood Retirement Community, 65 Briarwood Circle, Worcester. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Abby's House, Inc., 52 High St., Worcester, MA 01609.

I met Betty 20 years ago when she & Ted were in my first class at the Worcester Center for Crafts. She was a great woman and a committed jeweler and supporter of the crafts. She will be missed.
