Edward J. Roix

Edward J. Roix, 61, of Worcester, died Sept. 10 at the UMass-Memorial Medical Center after a long illness.

He leaves his wife of 36 years, Cynthia N. (Lind) Roix; a daughter, Lisa E. Roix and her significant other, James M. Collins, his cherished granddaughter, Nicole Collins, all of Worcester; two brothers: George W. Roix of Athol and Francis J. Roix of Woodland Hills, Calif.; two sisters: Margaret J. Sokolowski and Maureen E. Simokonis, both of Worcester; nieces and nephews.

He was born in Worcester, son of Wilbur and M. Theresa (Murphy) Roix. He graduated in 1966 from Saint John's High School and in 1983 from Worcester State College, majoring in psychology.

Mr. Roix was a peer educator at Worcester State Hospital for many years. Previously, he worked for the Worcester Public Schools and Sage Place in Shrewsbury. He was a member of the Genesis Club.

He was one of the subjects of a 2002 documentary film "Inside Outside" about coping with mental health challenges.

Calling hours are Friday, Sept. 12 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester. A funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. in St. Bernard's Church, 228 Lincoln St., Worcester. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
