Frances Powers Obituary

Frances M. Powers, 86
WESTBOROUGH - Frances M. Powers, 86, of Westborough, passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at the UMass Memorial Healthcare- University Hospital in Worcester. She was the wife of the late Bernard C. Powers.
Born in Oxford, MA, she was the daughter of the late John and Frances (Polubinskas) Katunas. She was educated in Holden schools and attended Worcester State Teachers College.
Frances was a public school teacher for many years with the Northborough Public School System.
She was a communicant of St. Luke the Evangelist Church and has lived in Westborough most of her life.
She is survived by a nephew, Gary Katunas and his wife, Denise and their daughter, Laura, of Chicago, Illinois; and a sister in law, Virginia Katunas of Buzzards Bay.
She was the sister of the late Walter Katunas.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, January 7, at 10:30 A.M. in St. Luke the Evangelist Church, 70 West Main St., Westborough. Burial will follow in St. Luke's Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Rand-Harper-Pickering Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main St., Westborough.

I am very sadened to hear of Fran's passing. She had been a former 5th grade teacher of mine back in 1985. In opinion, she was the best teacher I'd ever had and wonderful friend for almost thirty years! She will be missed. I love you Frannie!
