John Shuris Obituary

John Shuris, 91

CLINTON - John Shuris, 91, formerly of 205 Water St., died Monday, March 31, 2014 in Oakdale Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, West Boylston, after an illness. His wife of 40 years, Rita (Ginas) Shuris, died in 1992.

He is survived by two sons: William Shuris and his wife, Bonnie, of Clinton and James Shuris and his wife, Kathleen, of Princeton; four grandchildren: Andrew Shuris, Jason Shuris and his wife, Amelia, Alexander Shuris, and Ariana Shuris; four great-grandchildren: Kelsey, Natalie, Tiffany and Jamieson; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four siblings: a brother, George Shuris, and three sisters, Tina Koshivas, Helen Quirici , and Nota Shuris.

John was born and raised in Boston, son of William and Vasiliki "Bessie" (Gianicopolis) Shuris. He attended West Roxbury Public Schools, and was a US Army Veteran of WWII. In 1951, John and his wife married, and settled in Clinton.

A skilled upholsterer, he worked for many years at area furniture companies, including Empire Furniture, Buck Chair, and Mass Chair, wherefrom he retired in 1980. Previously, he worked for 10 years as a Machine Operator at Madison Wire & Cable, at their Lancaster and Worcester locations.

John was a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, and the Clinton Senior Citizens, loved to go fishing, and enjoyed taking bus trips to the casinos and spending time with his family. He will forever be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, and as a man of great character and integrity.

The Shuris family wishes to thank the staff at Oakdale Nursing and Rehabilitation for their kindness and compassion.

Per John's request, funeral services and burial in Woodlawn Cemetery will be private. There are no calling hours. McNally & Watson Funeral Home, 304 Church St., is directing arrangements.
