Kevin Wonoski Obituary

Kevin E. Wonoski, 63

Dudley - It is with profound sadness that Carol, Zachary and Ashley Wonoski convey the passing of their beloved husband, father and friend, Kevin Edward Wonoski. He is the son of the late William Wonoski and the late Sarah (Berry).

He leaves his wife Carol (Piekarczyk), of 38 years, a son Zachary and his partner Lisa Cadrin, a daughter Ashley Wonoski and her partner Shawn Sepuka. He also leaves behind his stepmother Mildred Wonoski, stepsisters Linda Theoles and her husband George, Patricia Ortiz, Mary Stoico, Kelly Horan and a stepbrother Louis Barone, numerous nieces, nephews, brother and sisters in-law, cousins, aunts, uncles and many, many friends, as well as his faithful and loving companion -Cash. He held his in-laws in high regards, enjoying all family outings, conversations and yes, a political argument or two with Lynn and Gary, Donna and Mark, Gary and Angela, Nancy and Joel, Susan and Chris, Karen and Tom and Cindy and Chad. I thank you all for loving him.

I want people to know that Kevin was my loving husband, my best friend and a great father to our children Zachary and Ashley. He was and will always be my favorite person in the world and I cannot image my tomorrows without him.

Zachary, with whom Kevin considered a great son but also one of his best friends. Kevin enjoyed playing golf with him, ice fishing, bird, and deer hunting and talking all things sports. He was proud to call him son and enjoyed all conversations they had together. His daughter, Ashley, was the apple of his eye, his little girl. Kevin loved being her father, was extremely proud of the young woman she has become and could never say no to her. He loved her contagious laughter and caring heart. Kevin also leaves behind a longtime friend in Joseph Doherty, with whom he enjoyed playing golf, talking sports and remembering the good old days. Joey was always there for Kevin during this illness; whether it was taking him to an appointment and or just calling to check in. Zachary, Ashley and I cannot thank him enough for loving and caring for him.

Kevin graduated from Shepherd Hill High School in 1975 and joined the United States Navy that same year. He served on the USS Robert E. Peary until 1979 as a Radioman. He was employed for many years at the Mapfre Insurance Company but his illness forced him to retire.

For years, he coached little league baseball, volunteered his time to work with pull horses, was a member of the local golf establishments, joined a bowling league and played many years in local softball leagues. He was an extremely competitive person in all sports, card games, scrabble games and even playing Chutes and Ladders with his children when they were young. He had many interests that included playing golf with his son Zachary, his nephew Brandon and lifelong friends Joey, David and Leo. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching his "Chicago Bears", reading anything history and yes, expressing his views. For those of you who truly knew Kevin, he was not afraid to share his opinions on politics and or other matters he held close to his heart, whether you wanted to hear them or not: which I am sure many can attest to. He was very compassionate about equality and could not abide to any form of bigotry. He enjoyed long conversations at family gatherings with his nephew and VP, Derek.

He made me laugh, cry, happy, sad, but most importantly he loved me and I am proud to call him my husband. He had a great sense of humor, loved to be the center of attention, could tell a tall tale or two and was truly a stubborn man. I will forever remember the "history" we had together and thank him for the gift of our children. I am forever grateful for the short time we had together. As loved ones depart from our lives, it is extremely hard to a capture a brief "history" of their life. I just want everyone to know he lived, and lived life to the fullest and we will forever miss and love him. He absolutely hated the illness that took him away from us way to early. It was extremely hard to watch him battle this disease, but he did it with grace, dignity and hope. Kevin did not complain nor ask why, he was just hopeful for a successful outcome. I truly am inspired by the strength he showed. Know that he will never be forgotten and is already missed. He will always be remembered as Carol's husband, her best friend, Zach's dad, Ashley's father and a friend to so so many. Today, Tomorrow, Forever….

Memorial calling hours are Thursday June 3rd from 8:30 to 11 AM at Bartel Funeral Home 33 Schofield Ave Dudley followed by Mass at 11:30 AM at St. Anthony of Padua Church 24 Dudley Hill Rd. burial with Military Honors provided by the Webster-Dudley Veterans Council will follow in Waldron Cemetery.

My deepest sympathy in your families loss. Working in the same place of business with Kevin was a blessing. He truly was the most kind, giving person, always with a smile, and knew everyone by name. He will be missed by so many.

I remember Kevin making me laugh whenever we were together when he was working at the High School. Kevin was unique and loved picking on me in a good way. One time Kevin had a set of boxing gloves and I was up for the challenge. Thinking I could knock him out, Kevin knocked me out in the Second round.. He stood there looking down at me worried If I was hurt, but I came out okay and he was the winner. Great guy with a great sense of humor.

My prayers go out to you all . I can imagine how much you will miss him. I certainly will. On occasion, I referred to him as "Sunshine" when he was walking by at work. He would laugh and say I was nuts . However, after reading his obituary, I wasn't surprised to find that he had that effect on everyone who was fortunate enough to know him.
