Louis Brodeur Obituary

Louis P. "Lefty" Brodeur, 92

Southbridge - Louis P. "Lefty" Brodeur, 92, of Charlton St., passed away on Sunday, Jan. 31st, in the UMass Memorial Medical Center, University Campus, Worcester, after an illness.

His wife, Jeannette C. (Tetreault) Brodeur, died in 1988. He leaves a son, Stephen A. Brodeur of Southbridge; a daughter, Paula J. Belanger and her longtime companion, Ken LaRochelle; a brother, David Brodeur; a sister; Pauline Beavis and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his longtime companion, Doris Malowski; a brother, Charles Brodeur; and two sisters, Lucille Royal and Ruth Powers.

He was born in Southbridge the son of Hector and Malvina (Vaillancourt) Brodeur. Louis was a US Army Veteran of WW II serving with the 296 Engineer Combat Battalion.

He worked for Russell Harrington here in Southbridge for 15 years as well as for Bousquet Auto Parts as a parts clerk for 15 years. Louis also owned and operated Lou-Jeans books and antiques for 12 years from 1976 to 1989. He was a member of the Leonide J Lemire VFW Post 6055 in Southbridge and an active member in the Southbridge Senior Center. He was an avid sports fan and supported youth baseball. He coached little league, Babe Ruth, and minor league baseball in Southbridge and Sturbridge. Louis also umpired for little league baseball. He was a family man and enjoyed time spent with his children.

A funeral Mass for Louis will be held on Monday, Feb. 8th, at 11:00am in Notre Dame Church of the St. John Paul II Parish, 446 Main St., Southbridge. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Southbridge. There are no calling hours.

The Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., Southbridge, is directing arrangements.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the St. John Paul II Parish, 279 Hamilton St., Southbridge, MA 01550.
